Please try this webcam link on your browser/smartphone...

Trying to find the right HTML to play an MP4 video across all modern browsers / mobile devices and think I may have cracked it.

The following page should auto-play & loop in FF & IE and gives a "play" option on the iPhone / iPad./

Just want to know if it works OK on other devices please?

http://www.westonweather.co.uk/webcam.php

The HTML is:

Code: Select all

<video id="WestonWeatherWebCam" poster="" width="600" height="480" autoplay="true" loop="true"
controls="controls" src="http://www.westonweather.co.uk/webcam/Intraday_Video.mp4"></video>

Hi, working fine on my Hudl tablet (Android ver 4.2.2 kernel 3.0.36+)
http://www.christelow.co.uk
“It's snowing still," said Eeyore gloomily.
"So it is."
"And freezing."
"Is it?"
"Yes," said Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately.”

I use this format ..

Code: Select all

<p align="center"><video src="myfile1.mp4" width="80%" controls autoplay >HTML5 Video is required for this example</video> </p>
By using a percent

Code: Select all

width="80%
it resizes the video even if the window size is changed..

Image
image browser at full screen showing video

Image
resized browser windows which shows video is reduced with resizing...

I'm not sure if this has an effect on mobile devices or not. But just a thought,,,

That's interesting, I'm on FF 27.0.1. (edit. so is Ace2 apparently) I don't think you need a special codec for MP4 do you?!

I couldn't believe how much difference there is between the different browser types / devices. Some just refuse to do what you'd think would be straight forward. MP4 seems to be one of the only universally supported formats.

ACE2, I'll look at changing my "size" parameters to a percentage. Didn't even know that could be done. Will try it on the iPad, as it seems particularly fussy about what it will and won't play! You can get away with most things in FF, some things in IE and very little in IOS!

Older browsers are unable to use html5(mp4) video's.

Try my video's with resizing and it works perfectly on my nexus..
