That's because your whole site is http. Once you have upgraded a site to https then any insecure http links or images (eg banner) remaining will not be shown in Chrome and warnings shown in Firefox.

Fixed it my Host had it set up so I simply had to edit the link in my signature file to https
... but now if I try to access your site using https it (FF) says there is a security risk and won't connect !
(http works OK)

Yup! Got myself in a bit of a muddle with this HTTP to HTTPS nonsense. Wish I'd never started messing with something I don't understand. I'll take a break and have another go tomorrow. By the way my weather station is partially down at the moment as well. ..... as they say in weather circles "It never rains but it pours!"

I’ll never change to https. It’s a weather site, not a bank. If Chrome won’t show something as innocuous as a banner I’d dump it.

Geoff, why bother with Chrome when it’s so restrictive? It’s a weather banner. If a browser blocks it then it’s not fit for purpose. No way should you have to make it a secure https site. Not for weather. I detest Google Chrome and the way various software encourages you to install it. I’ll stay with Firefox.

Unfortunately Ray, this has been coming for a long time. Eventually, all browsers will be https only.

It's not that difficult to install an SSL certificate, and you can get them for free.

One day maybe but why do weather sites have to have security like this. I thought once we’re out of the EU this silliness would stop. It’s got an EU directive written all over it. :bash:

It has nothing to do with the EU or any laws, this is down to the WWW evolving. It is the same for everybody around the world.

This quote from Mozilla / Firefox themselves:
The future of the web is HTTPS-Only
Once HTTPS becomes even more widely supported by websites than it is today, we expect it will be possible for web browsers to deprecate HTTP connections and require HTTPS for all websites. In summary, HTTPS-Only Mode is the future of web browsing!

In that case I’ll wait to hear from HostPresto about what changes are required.

I don't run my own server so control over adding SSL stuff is controlled by the host.
beteljuice.????? is two 'domains' (.com / .co.uk) which makes things more interesting - my host is currently charging £50 + VAT per year / per domain for SSL

Seeing as how I am in the lucky situation of getting my hosting for free (It's an old, complicated story) I may be going into lock down in more ways than one :(

I didn't realise a simple question about a missing banner would end up being blamed on the poor old EU. :o

Suffice to say - I like my Banner and the thought of not everyone is seeing it or not knowing if everyone can see it is the irritation for me - an itch that now has to me sorted.

Watch this space!

But still not for me when I use Chrome. I think the issue does lay with HTTPS. My host have offered o convert my site so I should get it sorted next week.

Good move. Best quote of 2020 "Chrome is adware disguised as a browser"
