Congratulations on your success, with no previous experience. I have argued in several earlier posts that many people find using a Raspberry Pi computer for MX easier than using a Windows PC for it. I believe your achievement, with no previous experience, shows (once more) I was right to claim that.

Before I start experimenting, please will it work this way, e.g. viewable in the same way as the CumulusMX dashboard from localhost? Due to my total ignorance of web servers etc I’m not sure if it’s worth trying to get started or not, whether it’s possible to use it this way and how much skills I need.
"localhost" can only be used for one server at a time. Cumulus MX generates a web server to run its Admin interface, and "localhost" can be used for that if there is no conflict.
As Paul says, Brian's UI style web site is designed to be on a different web server to MX's own admin interface.
If you have found wiki (and forum) entries about Raspberry Pi, you will understand that it is possible, to add another web server to your Raspberry Pi, that can run the UI style web pages, just as I do. I am not the only user to run a own web server on a Pi. Although my web server is only visible on my own devices connected to my LAN, any post by Mark gives the URL for the web pages hosted on his server.
Setting up a web server on a Raspberry Pi is covered in a lot of articles easily found online with various different web server software, and you may find one of those makes it simple for you. Alternatively, I do describe how to set up a web server using apache 2 at https://cumuluswiki.org/a/Setting_up_Ra ... _server.29
