Sun on light

Post by PaulMy »

In the past my Cumulus console screen would show the yellow sun as on whenever the sun was shining. I started with the B-L Sunrecorder which Cumulus recognized and showed the yellow sun when sun was shining. After my original B-L failed in July I changed Cumulus to not use B-L and then Cumulus defaulted to use my VP2 Plus with UV/Solar and am pretty sure the yellow sun would shine whenever it was sunshine. I changed back to the B-L settings earlier this month. Just recently noticed that the yellow sun on console was not shining at all, and we are having bright sunshine all day today.

cumulus.ini has
[Solar]
SunThreshold=75
RStransfactor=0.8
SolarMinimum=0
UseBlakeLarsen=1

but looks like realtime.txt is showing 0
Is sun shining? (1 = yes, 0 = No) 0

Cumulus logs and index.htm is showing correct sunshine hours for the day: Sunshine Today 7.8 hours Sunshine Yesterday: 0.1 hours

Any suggestion on how to get it to 1 (yes)?

Thanks,
Paul

Don't you have to configure the comm port as well somewhere? Had that changed for the new BL?

Can you paste the contents of your SRsunshine.dat file when the sun is shining? The IsSunny setting is taken directly from that.

Hi Mark, not aware of any configuration, only to tick Use B/L in Cumulus Station configuration. My Envoy/USB/Cumulus uses Com 4 and my B-L uses Com 5 and that has not changed. Nothing changed from B-L software, just the physical outside unit.

The only thing I am aware of is that B-L writes a SRsunshine.dat file every minute and if Cumulus is set to use B-L then Cumulus uses that file for the sunhours so far today and if sun is shinning now - true or false. Cumulus is reading that file as it reports the correct sun hours throughout the day, but not picking up the true (1) or false (0) for current sunshine.

There is no sunshine hours data impact, only that realtime.txt now always has 0 for Is it sunny, and any template/script that uses realtime.txt and reports on sunshine will show no sunshine. I also have the realtime.txt saved in MySQL every minute which records as 0 (not sunshine). The total sunshine hrs is showing correct in realtime.txt.

I am wondering if perhaps that I have both a B-L and Davis solar confuses Cumulus. My previous Davis had no solar so the B-L was the only source for sunshine and all was good; when I changed from B-L to Davis Plus solar in July this was now the only source and all still good; but now Cumulus recognizes both my Davis VP2 Plus solar and also to use B-L so 2 sources.

Enjoy,
Paul

Took too long to write my reply to Mark...
Here is the content of current SRsunshine.dat
.26
0.00
10.69
00:15:29
True

And sun is shining outside, Cumulus console sun is not lit, and realtime.txt has 0 http://www.komokaweather.com/weather/realtime.txt has 0.

There's an extra line in there which Cumulus does not expect. It uses the first line for the sunshine hours, and the fourth line set to "True" to indicate that the sun is currently shining. It looks like the format has changed.

Ah, thanks for spotting. Yesterday I had looked at the current SRsunshine.dat and gone back to previous forum posts to try to recall what each line represented and noticed that there seemed to be an extra but I ignored that difference because I had not done any B-L version update for quite a while.

I will contact Ole.

Thanks again,
Paul
