Hello,
I recently built a shield for my WH1081 Weather station temp sensor
I made it with 20cm diameter plant pots that then i painted in white. Also to make it even better i fitter a solar fan in the top that works as soon as the sun is out.
All finished and my results are the same that without the weather shield.. still giving +2 more degrees that the very nearby weather stations.
The shield is full exposed to the sun.. i don't have any share where to fit it on my terrace..
I wonder if anyone of you have a remedy for this ... i was thinking in calibrate the weather station on cumulus.. but still if i take out 2 degrees then in the night is going to read too low... Also i though in put a double shield with the original that was coming with the weather station plus the one i diy... but i thought that probably that was going to make only high reads..
Ps. my fan is one of those that comes the motor and the panel and the blades separated.. then you put all toguether and it works.
Any suggestions?
Best Regards

Re: Weather Station Shield
be sure that distance between plant pots does not permit to sun to reach the sensor

I have tried with smaller spacers in between plates but today another v sunny day here in Manchester i still having readings of +2 degrees more than nearby weather stations.

Hi Raul
I'm not sure of the physical position of your shield, but with you mentioning a terrace I get the impression it is above a paved area and close to a wall. Both will give off convective heat and therefore increase your readings.
I'm not a million miles away and my high today was 13c at 14.06. Ray Proudfoot over at Cheadle Hulme keeps very accurate records and much closer to you so it is worth having a look there.

Indeed is on a terrace is about 2 meters above of a grass bowling area and is on fixed to a steel grey verena and about 2 meters distance of the living room windows. Im not sure if they will give any convective heat those.. but im quite annoyed.. after spending quite lot of cash on the shield... you can watch the location on here www.raulsbd.co.uk is my webcam in the section webcam.
I checked Proudfoot and its a difference of about 1.5 degrees when sun is out and another one in Sale is the same.. Im not sure more how to shield it from the sun...
any ideas?
Thank you
