Rain in last hour

Post by Matt.j5b »

We had buckets of rain today but it seems that from the download from the logger the max hourly rain is slightly lower than it should do. It has reported 14 at 9:15 am but it seems more like 20 for the day looking at the logfile. Hope I am seeing this right. Would be great help with this. Do I need to attach my logfile to show this.
Thanks

Or, perhaps you could extract the relevant information from the log file and the diags file and show me where you think the problem is?

Found the diags and I have got the spike removal to 15 for max rain rate, so I think that is what is.

And the related log for the above

Is that correct. The ignorned values are correct but are being throw out and when it settles down the max is lower.
Thanks

If you've set a limit on the max hourly rain (not the rate, that's a different setting), then the hourly rain figure can never exceed that value. That's what the spike removal settings do; they cause values above the figure you set to be ignored. Is that not how you thought it worked?

To be honest, I did not know, but I did think that something would be caused it to be thrown out, that is just the first thing I thought might cause when I saw it in diags. Understood because the thorw out figures were correct and all those figures were over the 15 limit and the max ended lower than 15. Do I leave it balnk or will that make it 0 whixh would make it worst or something like 1000. Thanks

If you don't want the setting to have any effect, you need to set it to something large; there isn't a 'switched off' value, the code just uses whatever value it's set to. The default is 999.

Sure, I just use that and change the figure for today. Today we had 120mm and 201mm this month, it been pouring all day. When the houlry total increases I see if that solved it, more heavy rain is forecast tonight and tomorrow. Thanks Steve.

Had another 80mm overnight. The max hourly rain recorded 15 overnight, so it seems to works properly now. Thanks again Steve.
