Good idea/nice format...

How might this be morphed into a "web page widget?"

Could it be made to run independent of the yahoo engine or as a packaged (freestanding) executable...

...Suggest packaging (zipping) most recent xml build and sample text file along with instructions (here-->Paul C Post subject: Re: Sunbird Widget (Yahoo! Widget)Posted: Wed Dec 10, 2008 10:10 am). Newbies like me could use this great product more easily/quickly then.

Hi Lex,

I'm not really that hot on web-page widgets, even though I toyed with the idea to create a Google Gadget for this at one time. I can't really see the use of a web-page type widget, as it will just be another web page you should go to. Cumulus, already support the creation of a great web presentation for your weather station's data, and there are a number of guys on this forum who are enhancing and extending that functionality for all sorts of clever javascript and php stuff - using Cumulus's real-time capability to deliver up-to-the-moment information on their web pages.

This widget was originally written as a python Screenlet for the Linux/Ubuntu environment, and later ported to a Yahoo Widget for Windows. Both these implementations use an underlying framework to support the inner workings of screen presentation and connectivity (amongst a whole lot of other stuff), and it is *way* beyond my capability to write something that does not utilise such an underlying framework.

Having said that, the screenlet/widget is released under the GPL, and anyone who does have the capability of creating such a stand-alone implementation is welcome to both the code and the artwork.

Kind regards
Gumm

ps. I am still toying with the Google Gadget idea, and will let this forum know if such a thing becomes available.
