trends.htm missing graphs

Post by inmyrvm »

Hi,

I've seen several messages on this topic, though in my case I started with the MX templates as I just installed this for the first time a few weeks ago. The graphs look great on my home server (localhost:8998/charts.html), but on my godaddy web server, http://805weather.com/trends.htm, the graphs are totally missing. The buttons are there at the bottom but clicking them does nothing. It looks like I have all the files in the right places on my web server and I did select include graph data files in the settings menu. Is there something I'm missing?

Did you do a Save after ticking the setting?

Enjoy,
Paul

Yes. I actually turned that on when I first set this up a few weeks ago and have saved many times since then for other settings changes so I'm sure that's not the issue. I'm just wondering if it's something with the godaddy server or another setting somewhere in MX that I might have missed. Or maybe a file is missing on the server.

Your .json files are not found on the server (that is what the graph data files are). You can see this if you press F12 to open the developer console, and then reload the page.

If you turn on FTP logging in internet settings, then check the FTPlog file in your CumulusMX root to see what is happening at the regular upload FTP.

I have had ftp logging going for the last week or so troubleshooting other issues. Here's a snippet of the log showing the json files being uploaded. Perhaps to the wrong directory? That's the primary directory on my server.

Use an FTP client like Filezilla to confirm they are in the correct place.

It may be that your web server is not configured to serve .json files. Is your server, or a hosting company?

I use GoDaddy. It seems pretty complete but I didn't see a specific reference to json files in the applications menu. I assumed a major web server company would have that preconfigured but maybe not.

By the way, what IS the appropriate place? I did confirm they are all in my primary web directory which is /httpdocs. Should they be in a subdirectory?

Seems to be working now oops  http://805weather.com/gauges.htm

You have it in your http://805weather.com root with likely nothing else there other than the Cumulus webfiles. That is fine, but if you want to add something else to this website at a later time, such as another template, then it could become confusing.

Enjoy,
Paul

It is the graphs that don't work, the gauges are fine.
It looks from your screen shots that the JSON files are uploading okay. Perhaps your ISP needs to enable serving of JSON files, as they aren't available to the JavaScript that draws the graphs.

graphconfig.json seems to be missing. I guess that's where it strands.

If the files are definitely there then you need to contact GoDaddy support and ask them to enable the .json file type on your web server.

Google helped me find the solution to this. It was pretty obscure but it worked. I guess I just assumed this was all set up by default but I guess not. After I added these lines it worked. Just posting here in case anyone else has a similar issue.

in the new plesk control panel under web server settings add mime type

text/json .json

application/json .json

 - Yep, that is what we were saying about the web server not being configured to support .json files.
