realtime.txt not uploading !

I look after a few websites for friends and there is a lot of interest in the Undertheweather app. To this end they are required to send in the pathway for realtime.txt. No problem except one of them, www.woodfordwellsweather.co.uk isn't uploading it. It is in the right folder on the users PC and has up to date data string in it. It is also residing in the right place in /htdocs on the server but contains no data. All the other files are uploading ok. I'm not sure how long this has been the case. I have tried every combination of realtime.txt ftp boxes being ticked and unticked and double checked every setting is the same as mine and the others that all show the string.
I have also confirmed that others using the VIrgin Media webspace (as he is) are ok as well.
Any ideas. I suspect I am going to be asked for his FTP log which is not as easy as it may sound to get remotely from someone with his level of computer expertise. (possible if it comes to it though!)

A common reason for the 'standard' web pages being uploaded but not realtime.txt is that an incorrect path has been specified for the directory in the web site settings. The standard pages are uploaded after a 'change directory'; if this fails, the files will still be uploaded, and if no change of directory was actually required, it appears that all is working correctly. The realtime.txt file is uploaded without doing a change directory, by appending "/realtime.txt" to the supplied directory. In this case, if the directory is invalid, the upload fails.

Another possible reason is that the file is actually being uploaded correctly, but the web host does not support .txt files. This is common with free hosting; but if others are using the same hosting this would appear not to be the problem in this case.

It's hard to say any more without seeing the realtimeftplog.txt file.

Similar problem maybe. I have had problems with the Android App not updating and yet the realtime was. It's been 2 days so I deleted the realtime.txt on the website, even though it was showing correct time and date for today, and the App now works. Some sort of corruption or website problem maybe.

Tried deleting from server but file not resent so not getting transferred. FTP log saying no such file or directory but there is the htdocs directory on the server because the standard files are being sent there. It is updating on his computer and resides in the main Cumulus folder, not in <web> sub folder - is this correct, I think it is. Anyway this is latest bit of realtimeftplog.txt file. It goes back ages , like a year, and I can see that it was working.

Whoops - I've just seen the date on this! So why is it not logging currently I wonder? Got him to tick FTP logging in the configuration menu. Should this old FTP log be deleted?

The FTP logs are appended to. They should be deleted manually after/before each separate investigation.

Hi Steve. I have attached a current FTP log for realtime.txt. It does appear to be something to do with the directory but the standard files are going to it ok and I can see they are in htdocs on the server side. Should there be a forward slash in front of htdocs in the config settings in CUmulus?

The server says "Upload your website files in this directory." so presumably you are already in the htdocs directory when you log in, so you shouldn't be including that in the path at all.

Eureka! Yep, that's it. Sorry I didn't think of that - it was fooling me because I could see htdocs in the Cumulus Internet Config and the files in htdocs on the server.
I'll try and persuade Ron to make another donation but you know what these 80 year olds are like.
