Two consoles - measuring consistency

Post by peterh »

I seem to remember that a while ago, someone posted that he had two FO consoles running against the same sensor set, and saw substantial differences in inside temperature and humidity, but also a substantial difference in atmospheric pressure readings.

I now have two consoles running right next to each other. Initially, I saw the same.
When I returned a couple minutes later (after letting the consoles "settle" after being handled), they started to drift towards each other. Inside humidity still reports a difference of one percent (40% versus 41%... and yes, it is dry these days). Inside temp shows a difference of 0,2 degrees Celcius (17,0 versus 7,2), and barometric pressure is 0,3 hPa apart (1009,1 versus 1009,4, both relative, and with the same elevation correction factor).

I'm especially pleased with the fairly consistent barometric pressure accuracy. Since pressure readings on my original station are quite consistent with 2 Davis Vantage Pro 2 stations withing cycling distance (approx 5 miles as the crow flies), and also with the KNMI headquarter station (approx 10 miles as the crow flies), I'm not too worried about both consoles, as this kind of variation is well within the specified limit - and better than I would have expected of a station in this price range.
An opinion should be the result of a thought process, not a substitution.
