Problems with station communication: USB locks up completely

Like a previous poster, since doing Sync Reads, it has gone for a considerable length of time without a problem.

However, apparently, at 12.50 today it screwed up again which wouldn't have been too bad except, when I reset the console, I had an horrendous rain spike. Now I have to figure out what to do about that, dammit.

I suspect that this might happen because with some versions of the console, it appears that doing a reset doesn't affect the contents of the logger, but it does reset the current memory location pointer. So Cumulus has no way of knowing that the logger memory is invalid and uses it. After a console reset, it's probably a good idea to edit cumulus.ini before starting Cumulus again, and changing the UseDataLogger line to zero. Then set the 'Use Data Logger' option again in the station settings.

To fix your rain spike, it might be easier to 'roll back' using the backup created when you started Cumulus after the reset, but with the above change done. But you'll get a gap in your data, and you'll 'lose' the contents of the logger which has been created since the reset and which is actually valid.

After months and months without any errors, this night at 2.00AM , the station goes off
I removed batteries and then I put again on batteries on console and now everything is right

Presumably it's the USB lockup problem? Or am I missing something obvious?

I will enable it, the strange thing is that "synchro" was not enabled but the station run well for almost a year without issues.

The USB lockup problem, in as far as it is understood, is timing related; you may just have been lucky. It may also be that it isn't the same problem and the station locked up for some other reason.

It looks like you may have a different problem with your station.

The FTP error message is an error code coming back from your ftp server.

Could you stop pasting large sections of the diags file to the forum, please? It makes reading it very difficult, and replying using quoting a complete pain. If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll see if I can see anything useful.

For the ftp error, you could turn on the ftp log and look at ftplog.txt to see if there is any other information in it.

Realtime typically won't because it always stays connected once the initial connection is made. Does your host allow more than one connection at a time? I've heard of that being an issue with some hosting companies.

Ok, I'm brand new to this. Just bought a WA1081 which I think is Fine Offset brand. Installed Easyweather, got messages "can't communicate with device". Supplier suggested I use Cumulus, have installed that. When I plug in the USB I first get "downloading data" then red ERROR light and the program locks up - CTRL ALT DEL to fix.
Do I have a faulty unit?
I think, but not totally sure, that it was working when I first bought it. After I first installed it I checked & think it was Ok - then I went away for 2 months, have returned and the memory is 50% full. Don't want to delete this data as hopefully it contains some interesting numbers ( like how strong was the wind when the tree blew down!).

If both Easyweather and Cumulus are having problems communicating with the station, then it may be faulty. Or it may just be the USB lockup problem. You could try resetting the station but you would lose the data. Before you try that, you could try a different USB cable perhaps.

For what it's worth, after 5 years of successful running of the Watson 8681 Console (868mhz) it finally gave up. Purchased new one (433hz) and now I have the extremely annoying USB lockup problem. Being fairly experienced over that period of time I have tried pretty much everything. The synch fix doesn't work for me. I think we have to accept that at least some batches are manufactured with this pretty serious fault and the solution is unlikely to be found here but rests with the manufacturer. Great shame because the originals were fantastic value for money whereas my current one is unuseable.
