Cumulus freezes at start up

Hello All,
I am, as I'm sure you will recognize, a 'Newbie'.
I have been referred to this forum by a Weather Underground agent because the comments seem similar to the situation I am having.
I have an Ambient Weather WS-1090 (manufactured by Fine Offset) station connected to my computer and EasyWeather by a USB cable. For the past several weeks my system has been happily reporting the strange weather in the Denver region, but Cumulus has NEVER made contact with the system. (Yes, I know they cannot be run at the same time.)
A couple days ago Cumulus froze and was 'non-responsive' (I am running under Win7 Pro 64bit). I have tried close/reopen several times. No help. I then uninstalled and reinstalled. No help. I then re-downloaded Cumulus and reinstalled from the new file. Nada. Since it first died, when I reinstall and open within a minute it 'twiches' and is 'not responding'.
I have gone through the Weather Underground system and have been assigned a Station ID of: KCOBENNE5
I have read the comments on this similar incident, and I confess I have NO CLUE what any of it means. (I SAID I am a Newbie!!) I would be deeply appreciative of an guidance this forum can provide. I would consider it an honor to be able to contribute to the Weather Underground coverage in this area.

If I understand this correctly, you have two separate issues? Firstly that you have been unable to upload to Weather Underground, and now that Cumulus has some sort of problem when you run it?

Tackling the second one first, please zip up the diags folder from the Cumulus folder and attach it here.

Thanks for the response Steve.

I'm obviously doing something wrong here. When I try to enter the file name (C:\Cumulus\Diags) Win Explorer won't insert that file name in the box. (I said that I'm a newbie.) In the Diags folder there are 9 files totalling 29MB. I have also, unsuccessfully, tried to attach the files to an email.

I'm not sure what to try next. If it would be easier, you can send me an email at James2@alfora.org.

Thanks again,

Jim

It's a folder, so you need to zip it first into a single file before uploading it. You could upload the files individually, but that makes it much more work for me to look at them.

Windows has file zipping built in. Right click on the folder and select 'Send to' from the pop-up menu, then 'compressed (zipped) folder'. Windows will then create a file called Diags.zip which you can attach to a forum reply.

Hi Kennelmaster,

I have seen this happen, especially when Cumulus has a few weeks worth of data to upload. In my case I had occasion to go back to an old backup of my data to eliminate a gap in my records by forcing a re-upload from the base unit.

Just as in your case, Cumulus had a large amount of data to upload.

When I restarted Cumulus with the old data it froze for several minutes, but eventually recovered and has been normal ever since. During the freeze Cumulus give the appearance of being dead, but as I found out it wasn't.

My guess is that you simply need to wait a bit longer and Cumulus will recover.

Maybe I could add that you should bear in mind that this apparent "freezing" with a large amount of data will be longer if you are using a "slow" computer

OK. Sorry about the delay. I had to download/install WinZip and then figure out how to use it. (I wouldn't bet anything that it is going to work.)

This (Sandaysoft) program isn't totally clear either. I have (I think) just uploaded the Zipped-up Diags files. I'm going to assume [a dangerous sport] that the file is, in fact, attached and it will be sent when I click on 'Submit'.

Thanks all for your patience and guidance.

You could have used the built-in Windows zipping, as I suggested?

No, it isn't attached. You need to go down to the panel below the one where you type your reply, with the heading 'upload attachment', click 'browse...' to find the file on your PC, click ' add the file', and then 'submit'.
