Wind chill and Weather Underground

Cumulus is reporting the wind chill fine however it does not get sent to Weather Underground along with all other data Any ideas?...Thanks

Wind chill is not a parameter that can be sent to WU.

I didn't mean that wind chill is not a parameter that can be sent to WU using Cumulus; I meant that it can't be sent to WU at all, from a PWS, using any software.

Steve, actually there are some PWS's in my area that DO report wind chill and it is the very first line under current temp on their Wunderground forecast pages, which brought me to the original question. There are at least 3 here that I know of There re others as well. Zip is 93442 and Cuesta College, South Atascdero and Los Osos/Cuesta By the Sea/Baywood, Los Osos California. ALL are PWS's. They do report and list the wind chill.

I guess I'm assuming you mean by a PWS fine offset station whereas other types of stations used can?

I'm not sending that wind chill figure. There is nowhere in the protocol for wind chill to be reported - http://wiki.wunderground.com/index.php/ ... d_Protocol

Either WU is calculating the wind chill from my other data, or it is getting it from the airport. Note the 'cloud' data - I'm not sending that either, but it's coming from somewhere, almost certainly the airport.

If WU is calculating the wind chill, I note that your temperature is above 10C, which is the threshold for reporting wind chill. Cuesta College, which does have wind chill listed, is slightly below 10C. Presumably WU is applying the 10C rule.

No, any Personal Weather Station. There's nowhere in the protocol for anyone to send wind chill data.

Thanks Steve. Makes sense. I found a few more in my area that are also reporting the wind chill. Interesting indeed. Might drop WU a note and ask them to see.

On edit.... in my area cloud reporting, visibility and such etc and such are reported my NOAA MAIDS stations. I inquired on that since one morning my forecast page reported fog with 1/4 mile visibility yet it was clear as a bell thus I found out the closest NOAA MAIDS station which is a bit away was in fog however we weren't.

Not real sure on the 10c rule either since Questa College is reporting 50.4F and I am reporting 50.5F? I've sent an inquiry off to WU, will be interesting to see their reply anyway. I'll post it when I get it. Usually takes me a day or 2 to get an answer.

Cuesta College is now above 10C and no longer has wind chill.

Well that answered that We'll be getting well below the 10C mark later today and evening with 25-30 mph wind so we'll see what happens. Thanks Steve!

+Well as per Steve's reply he is correct on the 10C rule for wind chill to show on the WU forecast page. Once my temps dropped below 10C the wind chill showed up. I had in the meantime asked WU what the protocol was for this to show up. Steve hit the nail on the head. WU's reply was a bit humorous. I asked basically how and when this happens and was pretty detailed in my question, but seem to think they must have skimmed my question pretty fast. Below is the response I got. Either way Steve was right on the money....
