The manual doesn't seem to say over what period it's forecasting - and there does seem to be some tweaking permitted/required - but bear in mind that it's supposed to be a forecast, not what's happening now.

I would hazard a guess that all the forecast is doing is looking mainly at pressure trends (like all the small temp/humidity WX stations do).

If it shows a rise in pressure it shows the Sun symbol and if it falls it shows Rain; or Snow on the WH systems which appear to include temperature in the calculation.

I doubt it anything much more complicated than that.

I wouldn't put much reliance on the forecast by these relatively cheap units, after all the Met Office have a job at times with their millions of pounds worth of computers! But rising or falling barometer can give a statistically better result than tossing a coin.

Sorry, no banner - weather station out of action. Hoping to be up and running with a new home-made one soon.

The way I read the manual for the station (Tendency section) , you need to do a bit of initial setup: you look out of the window and then pick the symbol that best represents the weather outside. From then on the station will use different symbols for different pressures. The tendency up and down arrows are probably based on history ie. what you can see in the pressure bar graph that is continually updated.

Hi guys.

A simple forecast system must be about as accurate as the old fashioned 'dial' on a barometer.

It will indicate 'better' weather with rising pressure.

A far better option would be a quick peek at a satellite image. Add wind speed and direction and you should be able to attain high levels of 'local' accuracy.
