Interrupted transmission: Cumulus vs Easyweather

Post by soundhill1 »

Hi,

Transmission stopped for about an hour.

Easyweather shows the indoor values with squiggles for missing outdoor values but Cumulus shows nothing in the data file for the interruption period.

What version and build of Cumulus? Was it running at the time - throughout the period where the outdoor signal was lost, including just before it started? Please zip up the diags folder and attach it, and indicate when the signal was lost and when it recovered.

To attach the diags folder, which should be in your Cumulus folder see above Please click here before posting. Help me to help you! which includes...
If I ask you to 'zip up the diags folder and attach it' and you don't know how to do this: In Windows Explorer, open the Cumulus installation folder (normally C:\Cumulus). Right-click on the 'Diags' folder, and from the pop-up menu, select 'Send to -> Compressed (zipped) Folder'. This will create a file called Diags.zip. Post your message in the forum, and attach the file using the 'Upload attachment' section below the area where you have typed your message (browse for the file, then click 'Add the file').
Cumulus 1.9.2 Build 1030 is very old in terms of software development. It is now version 1.9.4 build 1099. Updating would be highly recommended.

Very old versions of Cumulus tended to discard all data when contact with the outdoor sensors was lost (on Fine Offset stations). Later versions use the indoor data if available (and re-use the last good outdoor data).

Thanks. must be an old mirror around. Only started last month.

Will updating cancel my data files?

This is why I don't like others hosting the download, although I don't/can't prevent it.

No, everything should be OK, but with such a large jump in versions I can't guarantee that there won't be a few oddities. There will be a lot of release notes to read!

I used the version that Scientific Sales pointed to.

Easyweather seems to neglect readings before the date of installation. You are saying Cumulus doesn't?

Will it work if I set the computer time to NZST so as not to lose an hour of data and get graphs jerky?

If Cumulus won't set the reading interval why is it on the menu?

Cumulus starts recording from the point where you first run it.

Yes, Cumulus just uses the time from your PC.

What do you mean by "reading interval"? You can set the interval at which Cumulus logs data to its own logs. Cumulus will not set the station's logging interval; there is a SetLogger utility that I wrote, on the downloads page which will do that (while Cumulus is stopped).

With the computer set to NZST Cumulus stopped receiving data after 1 am.

I am trying a Windows 10 machine but there is no option to change the date format to dd/mm/yy so no go.

I got to Windows 10 extra settings and was able to change AM to a.m. so Windows 10 could then recognise my old today.ini.

But it still won't get the readings from the WS3083

If you zip up the diags folder and attach it to a reply in this thread, I'll take a look.

The first block of the station's memory is apparently corrupted:

12/10/2016 02:59:07.571 : EWUSB: Bad startup block 0, discarding. Byte 0 = A3 Byte 1 = 5F

This is effectively the same as this issue from the FAQ:

Thanks, I was using Cumulus 1.9.2 Build 1030 and that does not seem to have EWUSB scanning that first block or it doesn't say.

It was OK until I changed the time from NZDT to NZST.

Easyweather Plus reads the data OK.
