Problem re-loading dayfile

Post by bnwrx »

I started Cumulus today and had an error message:

6/18/2014 05:14:17.055 : EWUSB: Day rollover 6/18/2014 12:05:14 AM
6/18/2014 05:14:17.055 : === Day reset, today = 18
6/18/2014 05:14:17.055 : === Day reset for 6/17/2014
6/18/2014 05:14:17.055 : NOAA reports will be uploaded at next web update
6/18/2014 05:14:17.066 : Error writing dayfile.txt: I/O error 32
6/18/2014 05:14:17.066 : If the above error mentions I/O error 32, something on your system is locking the file and preventing Cumulus writing to it
6/18/2014 05:14:17.066 : Cumulus has been unable to write to dayfile.txt; please insert the following data into the file
6/18/2014 05:14:17.066 : 17/06/14,30.4,248,13:57,51.3,06:44,79.3,16:15,30.07,17:26,30.14,09:04,0.00,00:04,0.00,65.0,95.8,11.4,12:04,14,16:18,33,07:19,0.000,0.0,79.3,16:15,72.9,15:27,45.4,04:53,0.00,00:04,51.3,06:44,33.7,13:44,14.2,03:14,213,4.3,4.3,0,00:04,0,00:04
6/18/2014 05:14:17.067 : Error closing dayfile.txt: I/O error 103

So....I first tried doing what it said, pasting the line into the dayfile....It would not accept it, saying I could not save the file because it was open in another program(?). Cumulus was closed at the time so I don't know what program was using it. I tried several times...no luck... I then tried(with Cumulus still closed) to use the previous days backup file, and copy/paste to the data folder....no luck again...it says I can't save the file because it is open in another program. I then re-booted the computer and tried all of this again with no other programs running and I still can't paste the data. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

UPDATE......
It appears my "New" firewall(Private Firewall) was perhaps the problem....I closed it and I have now been able to update all the data files.....
So.... How do I get the new Firewall to allow these daily updates???? I have given the FW all permissions I can, so I don't now my next steps.....

Searching the forum for I/O error 103 yields several entries.

For example:

https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7582

and
https://cumulus.hosiene.co.uk/viewtopic.p ... 103#p93529

maybe one of those will help you.

Anti-virus (etc) software normally allows you to exclude folders from its jurisdiction, so you will need to do that with the Cumulus folder (and its subfolders). If it's not obvious how you do that with this particular software, then unless someone else here happens to be using the same software, you'll need to use the support for the software to get help.

It seems very odd that a firewall would stop you editing a text file on your own PC.

Steve and tobyspond, thanks for your input....
It does appear the new Firewall I am testing, somehow prevented Cumulus from writing to the dayfile, other Cumulus functions "seemed" to pass thru just fine. Anyway...In the Firewall settings, I was allowing Cumulus functions, but the FW had an option for "Trust this Process" (unknown to me at the time), which when I selected "trust" it now seems to allow Cumulus to function without issue(at least for now!!) Hopefully I have found the issue and addressed it. thanks for your suggestions....
