Data flow to Cumulus slow from Fine offset.

Post by wd40 »

My best guess is this is not a Cumulus problem and is outside the bounds of the USB lockup I think. My unit is over two years old.

Version 1.9.3 Build 1059

Yesterday it rained hard for over an hour. Cumulus started to record the rain as it started but then it stopped getting data from the console. Rain fall for today stopped on Cumulus but the console continued to show accumulating rain and well over an inch above the Cumulus reading as time went by. Rain fall rates on Cumulus went to 0. The wind on the console was indicating as expected but Cumulus showed no change.

After about 15-20 minutes, Cumulus started catching up on rain fall and eventually, got as close to the station reading as you could expect.

Console Memory was full so I held down the station enter key for a few seconds but no memory reset. I pulled the battery, cleared the memory and now Cumulus is working perfect.

Odd for sure.

Anybody else have this problem?

It may have lost contact with the station for a while. But usually, that would require some kind of restart or station reset to get going again. And Cumulus would normally flash a 'data stopped' error. Perhaps the data from the station stopped changing.

If you zip up the diags folder and attach it, I'll take a look.

It is working perfect today with a light rain.

Cumulus wasn't aware of anything wrong, it was reading the data successfully, and the data was changing - except for the rain counter. Even the memory location was incrementing as it should:

That "87 11" figure is the rain counter.

Then suddenly there was a large increase in the rain counter:

8/19/2013 18:00:00.642 : Latest reading: 4130: Data: 03 30 F4 00 52 0E 01 55 27 0E 18 00 00 94 11 00

It's as if the console was no longer getting the updated rain counter for a period. I can't explain why you saw the rain changing on the console, it's presumably something to do with the internal operation of the console.

Thanks for taking a look Steve. It was odd for sure. The rain was very heavy that day.

I think taking the batteries out of the console for a reset every few months might be a good idea.
