Good afternoon,
Yep Paul, you know where I am
Contact through the topsites website is largely disabled as we were gaining 1000 odd spam messages every week. Needless to say my delete button became worn out.
I honestly have no idea of any workaround. I will ask beteljuice and see if he has any ideas.
Meanwhile no there is no plans to upgrade at this stage. There has only been 2 queries regarding this so not enough for the work that will be involved.
However I will ask the owner of the server what could be done. He also built the foundations of the top sites.
I come back to you and let you know how I get on.
Cheers
Jenny

Good Day,
Not quite accurate but close
Has been off line since the 19th April 2023.
Fatal server crash I am afraid. Many NZ weather web sites also down.
Just a waiting game for us as this is sorted.
I will keep you posted when I hear more.
Cheers

No, hence my post. But it’s been available until recently.
I see Jenny has explained the reason. I’ll be patient.

@JennyLeez: While reconstructing, maybe you can also get a LetsEncrypt certificate to have HTTPS? I always get errors for mixed security when using chrome so that would be nice.

Good Day/Night,
So good and bad news.
The bad news the server crash trashed both the main copy and the backup. However what we had was not going to run on php8 and we needed to head that way. So we will be starting all over
The new software is somewhat confusing. I have not had time to do anything with it as my main focus was to get our own NZ stations back up and running. So thats the bad news.
The good news is yes to https.
Also there were a heap of stations on that list that were no longer running so this way we start a fresh with only those that are active.
I will start a new topic once up and running for some testers to try. Gee Topsites 2023 .... where did that last 10 years go
Cheers

The backup was lost too?
I’m struggling to understand how that’s possible.

Yep, backups were lost too. A number of New Zealand weather websites were affected by the same provider sadly.
I have learned to not be reliant on your web host provider providing a backup service. Thankfully for me I did a full backup and download to my local PC back in January 2023, but have lost all my database data between January 2023 and my rebuild in May 2023.
But like Jenny said, it is a good chance for some of us to start again and move with the times. Once access was restored for myself, I have spent the past 2 weeks updating my scripts to support PHP8, and HTTPS but still have a few difficulties with my scripts talking to the SQL database as I try to change from "mysql" to "mysqli".
I look forward to hearing what Jenny has in store
