SunPrairie Weather website?

Has anyone heard of this?

I noticed today that I had a visitor to my website from that website....which seems to have my weather station mapped.

Not heard of it before, and don't recall signing up for it, unless it's affiliated to another site I share my data with.

Here's the website address: http://www.sunprairieweather.com/wxglobal.php

I can't obviously see yours there ?

Here's the UK end: http://www.ukwx.net/wxglobal.php although there is also a Scottish and new Europe network also.

Map data from Affiliated Regional Networks and scripts from Saratoga-Weather.org.
If you have a personal weather station publishing to a personal weather website, you can submit a request to have your data included in this display by visiting the network for your geography from the list above.

To me it looks very much like the map (local or GLobal) that's used by the OWN (Ontario Weather Network.
Check out the map at:
http://www.ontario-weather.net/wxglobal.php

Obviously they copy each other under a different name??

Cheers,

Arthur

You have to zoom into where the UK is, and I am at the bottom right

Lucky you.
Seems to be no problem for other networks.....

Registered with OWN (Ontario Weather Network) about 6 month ago, and my station is still not on their list.
"We're working on it" they keep sayng :bash:

Maybe will try some other networks.

Cheers,

Arthur

I presume you have had communication with Ann-Marie? http://www.ontario-weather.net/wxcontact.phpI had no problem signing up and being added, but that was quite a while ago and have noticed no new additions for a long time.

Wow, is that page heavy on CPU whilst in 'run' mode!

The same for me, even on a quad core :O

My data is there but i've never seen the site before. I don't particularly mind to be honest.

Apparently it may be linked to Malvern dentist?

If you're looking to find some Black Ops 2 pro tips and find out how to get a good kd in black ops 2 then you should go check them out!

My data is on there too, I'm pretty sure they just aggregate data from a whole bunch of sources automatically and add it to their website. I don't mind, but I was certainly never asked.

EDIT: Apparently they are affiliated with a few other weather aggregate websites, so probably a third-party agreement from them! :P

Looks like the code now gets weather data for THE WORLD from a central source (North America Networks), these things used to source from the affiliate country.

If you have NOT explicitly given permission to an affilate network to 'farm' your data you should request that all details are removed forthwith !

These maps and sites are using very old PHP designs - here are the results of using new more modern PHP design: 'European Weather Network' - I do not know (I did not check) if this map is using as much CPU power as the old (boring and ugly) maps do...

Perhaps I can help explain what is happening, since I'm the creator of the Regional Affiliated Weather Networks starting back in 2006, with the first affiliated network going online in 2008.

Each Regional network (and there are now 38 networks online) manages data collection (usually at 5 minute intervals) from member stations of the network. The European network does its own collection from stations, so members in the European network and one of the country-based networks may see two data collections every 5 minutes from their personal weather website for their stations.

Every hour, the configuration information is pulled from the regional networks, and every 5 minutes, the summary conditions collected by those networks is collected centrally at the North American network site (which acts as the global aggregation site) .. none of these collections access member stations directly -- only the summary information from the Regional network websites.

Every 5 minutes, the global hub publishes a JSON file that is used to drive the wxglobal.php Google map that is used on many sites.

Ray, it would be helpful if you had an URL or two to show the maps you say use much CPU power to display. As far as I know, the original mesonet maps and the JSON-based Google maps are all fairly light in CPU usage in the browser.

Best regards,
Ken

Ken, I was not the one reporting the high CPU usage:

in reference to the United Kingdom Weather Net ... all I wrote was that I did not checked (nor compared) if the more modern maps were using as much CPU as the old maps...

Arthur, looks like you're now included in the Ontario Weather Network listing, but your data does not appear http://www.ontario-weather.net/
