Any geologists here?

Post by daj »

A completely non-weather related question...one that has been in my head for months (and there is a lot of crazy things in there!!)

How is soil 'made'?

I understand rocks....they come from volcanic activities and are solidified lava (I think). I am sure it is not the easy, but it keeps it nice and simple!

Sand comes from the action of the sea (or wind) breaking down rock).

So where does soil fit in? Is it broken down plant matter or something else?

So, that's my question of the day. Any thoughts appreciated. :geek:
