Web site back up question

Post by Johnny basement »

All
Steve has been doing a great job hosting my web site, but now it is time to move on. Being someone who knows nothing about IT I have a question.
My web site URL welwynweather.com is registered with 1&1. I phoned them to check out hosting the site. Then have asked me to send them the 'back up' files.
What exactly does that mean- what are the files they require? Is it the folder called webfiles?
Thanks
Chris

Chris, if you have Cumulus1 it will be all the files and folders on Steve’s server beneath the www top level folder. If you access it using FileZilla right-click the top level folder and choose download.

Make sure the folder in the left window is where you want the download to go.

Then send them that zip. Mine was 50Mb for nearly 10 years of data. Tiny but website standards.

If the price is too much try HostPresto. I’ve been very impressed with them. https://hostpresto.com

All sorted now Ray, thank you for pointing me in the right direction.
My site is now hosted by 1&1. Initial site updates failed because 1&1 require SFTP. But they did something to work around that.
Thanks again
