Moving Home what have other people done?

Post by water01 »

In a few months we will be moving home from the top of the Mendips to near the sea on the Somerset Levels (non flooding area!!).

I have nearly 5 years of data from the Mendips but obviously there will be a difference in weather conditions from on top of 640ft of hills to almost sea level although they are only 26 miles apart.

Do I abandon all data and start again, archive it and start again or carry on as though nothing has happened, answers please on a postcard :D ?

Unfortunately I think you have to archive it and start again. Or leave your station and data for the new occupants to run and treat yourself to a new one!

Hi David,

We moved almost 300 miles (~480 km) north late last year and I started from scratch, no website up and running yet. I had five years of data too and hate not to be able to use it.

I'm afraid with the difference in weather conditions, you will have to start again.

Good luck with your move.

Location, location, location ......

Weather as we know can be very territorial.

So ... start from scratch, but do see if local schools, library, other enthusiasts, whatever maybe interested in your old data.

Save the data in MySQL! Then I am sure some of you will be able to come up with some query or script to compare to your new home's data by day, month, etc. with some nice graphs included :)

Good luck on the move, and also on the home move...

Thanks for the replies.

So It will be an archive of my data and then a restart, but that should be in June.

Thanks for the good wishes for the move. It isn't until you try this that you realise how much junk you have collected or not thrown away, so we have some pretty drastic culling to do going from a 6 bedroom house to a 4!! Already been to the tip twice with a car and trailer full!!

if you have been uploading it to weather underground then you already have archived it.

if you change to Saratoga Templates there is a script to load WU History.
