Maplins selling Oregon

Post by ironeagleuk »

Just noticed that Maplins sell Oregon Scientific weather stations.

Is this new?...as I've not noticed them there before.

Oregon Scientific WRM88 £99.99 reduced from £149.99 http://www.maplin.co.uk/silver-usb-wire ... ter-223254

Oregon Scientific WMR200 £299.99 reduced from £349.99 http://www.maplin.co.uk/oregon-scientif ... ion-384931

Are they relatively cheap?....and is the WRM88 as good, or better than a Fine Offset?

Does anyone have an opinion on the above question?

The reason I ask is because I see Maplins have the WMR88 on sale again at £79.99 now

The main disadvantage of the WMR88 is that it has no data logger, so you would need to have a PC running 24/7. I have a WMR200 but have never installed the sensors (I just bought it to so I could add support for it to Cumulus) and the build quality is much better than a Fine Offset. The WMR200 can be a bit funny sometimes about handing over its logger data, but I'm not aware of anyone with a WMR suffering from 'spikes' like the Fine Offset does.

Thanks for that info....I might snap one up, as I now notice that for some reason these are now "Discontinued product" on Maplins site...I wonder why that is
