Storm on the way

Post by steve »

There's a chance I'll be without power for at least part of tomorrow (so unable to answer questions), as we have a bit of weather on the way, with a Force 10 storm and gusts to 85 mph forecast overnight. And with a high spring tide due tomorrow morning, we might have a garden full of sea and kelp again...

You'll have to get a pet seal for your front garden. Good luck with the gales.

Your very fine barometer looks like it's being dropped off the roof of a tall building.

Stay safe Steve. To look on the positive side at least it isn't cold.
Cheers,

Yeh, you're going to be worse than us down here in the SW. Newton Poppleford Weather has just broken the highest gust this year! 38.0 mph was recorded at 15:53 on 29/01/2012 :D

So, good luck for the garden, the house, the WS and most importantly yourself and your family!

Hi Steve,

Yes, good luck from me as well. We've just come back from a cruise (too cheap to refuse) to the Canaries and sailed into a "Force 10" in the Atlantic. Glad to be surrounded by 75,000 tons of steel, but still not an entirely comfortable day.

Cheers, Alan.

Hi Steve,
Perhaps it's time to get that wind turbine sorted but I expect it would struggle in 85 mph winds!!
Just business as usual for you but do stay safe :)

Peak average wind speed overnight 58 mph (Force 10), peak gust 82 mph. Currently eased off to 50 mph (F9) gusting to 65 mph.

Didn't get much sleep, but at least the power's stayed on.

Neil - yes, there are lots of private turbines on the island now (in addition to the five SSE ones), but they can't connect any more to the grid, and so the financial benefit is not so good now.

Good to hear you got through without major mishap! :D

Compared to this, our weather is boring. I suppose you'd happily trade your exciting weather for our boring weather ;-)
At 9 am, we got the cold front hanging off your low... but nothing like your winds. Classic cold front behaviour though... thermometer taking a nosedive, wind sharply turning clockwise (I'm sure there is a better word for that in English), patchy rain.

Yes, let's just call this "Steve's low". It's all your fault. ;-)

Hi Steve,

I'm glad you got through the storm safely and as Peter said "No major mishap!" :D

I hope all your loved ones and belongings are ok, especially the WS! :D

Hi Steve,

I heard that another batch of stormy weather is heading your way tomorrow, with more heavy rain accompanied by strong W winds! :D

I hope all goes well again,
