It looks like the end of the cold spell for us

Post by peterh »

Temperature's been below freezing for 10 days on end at this station. Two days of minimums below -10 C, so I think it's an official cold wave ;-)

But the wind is now turning counterclockwise and picking up, and pressure is falling. Fourty years ago, when I was a teenager and we didn't have a medium-range forecast yet, I would've said "snow tomorrow, and that's it for the cold spell". Today, we *have* medium range forecasts, and they say "snow tomorrow and sunday, and that's it for the cold spell".

Back to normal here.

Thank God for the Atlantic! It's a mixture of rain and wet snow here tonight. We're promised a sunny but cold Saturday and Sunday will become wet but much less cold. By Tuesday the UK Met Office are forecasting temps here of +11C. :D

Snow is nice up to a point but I'm fed up with the cold. Rain and gales sound great!
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

Hi Ray

Across in Wigan it has been snowing all evening - 5 inches so far, which is a lot for us!

Looks like we're getting that (or whatever's left of it) when you guys are done with it.

It certainly is - not the place for softies!

Yes, I'm like you. Snow is nice at first, but I quickly get fed up with it.

At about 7pm we were having sleet and rain, but since then the snow has been steady.

You are welcome to it Peter. I was going to say you could have our pollutants too, but there is no proper industry here anymore! So you can have our fresh air.

Kevin,

It seems Wigan bore the brunt of yesterday's snow. The M6 turned into a car park! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/topics/weath ... lanes.html

Much better weather today. Sunshine and 6C. :D
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

Well, in the South West, the temperature has already picked up into mild territories again which makes a stark contrast to Newton Poppleford Weather's Lowest Maximum of -0.2c which was recorded just 6 days ago! :O

Even so, we never got the snow we were predicted "10 - 15 cm of snow on Friday Morning" and in fact we only saw 1 cm of snow with sleet falling on top of it on Friday Morning! I was gutted! :(

Signs that height rises across Greenland will occur during February, don't wave goodbye to the cold just yet. ;)

We also got warmer weather today, finally. Was starting to get a bit bored of sub 20 minus celsius now. Now it's about -6 so it's alright. And more snow, which is good :)
