Inundation

Post by steve »

We had a bit of a storm last night, followed by a high spring tide this morning. This is the road past our house just before high tide:

And our garden:

It continued to fill for another hour or so. It's high tide again in a few hours, so we may get a top up.

I hope you managed to get that old Landie running Steve! That salt water will be a killer for any vehicle though. Thankfully your house looks like it is high enough to not be affected?

Hi Steve,

WOW, nice pics, certainly looks flooded! Has that happened before? Is this a likely occurrence? :O Where is your weather station?

Hi Steve,

At 4 meters I can relate to the tidal flooding - no fun. However, we're about 20 miles inland so that makes a difference even with a few tidal streams and ponds nearby. Hope all the important stuff stays dry and the rest drys out quickly.

The house itself is at about 5m AMSL, so it'll take quite a bit more before it becomes a problem. We tend to get the sea coming in the garden to a certain extent every winter, but this is the most we've had in the seven winters we've been here.

The Land Rover's running well, but I don't intend to venture out until I really have to.

A couple of great pictures Steve. And now I can see what you mean when you have said - no trees here!

Keep safe,

Despite the flooding, the pictures do leave me wanting more.
My wife and I like the Highlands so much that we decided to get married in the Scottish Highlands.

No trees indeed. Just a lot of sheep.

Keep your stuff dry!

The waters subsided a bit after a few days, and then this weekend we've had another storm, and although the sea didn't come over the top this time, we had a lot of rain and the garden has flooded again. I think it's going to be one of those winters

Nettles, docks, and dandelions, mostly.
