Drought declared in SE England - how much rain have you had?
A drought was declared today for much of SE England. Two drier than normal winters have led to many reservoirs being less than 1/3 full.
It would be interesting to see rainfall amounts during the last few months across different regions of the UK.
Please post your rainfall total from 1 November 2011 to 19 February 2012 inclusive and what county you live in.
I'll get the ball rolling. Here in the north-eastern part of Cheshire I've recorded 14.45" or 367mm in that period. Clearly there is no problem in this part of the UK. December broke my all-time monthly rainfall record with 7.21" or 183.1mm.

41.27 inches over that period
but it is Oban west coast of scotland local airport oban recorded 40 inches so the odd inch does not bother me.
wonder if thats why everything is green around this area.
on the down side we did loose the only beach for the kids to play on http://www.obantimes.co.uk/2012/02/20/c ... vans-sand/ but fixing the massive potholes in the road not interested

Rain in East/West Sussex seems reasonable. 4.78" in Bucks is definitely on the low side.
Can I ask for measurements to be supplied in both systems? mm to inches divide by 25.4.

On the Cumulus User Map there are in excess of 30 stations in East Anglia. Some reports from there would be appreciated.

From the readings submitted so far looks as if my neck of the woods is quite dry.
My total for the period is 87.7mm/3.45"

I thought it was exceptionally dry here, but that is bone dry compared to me.sunseeker wrote:From the readings submitted so far looks as if my neck of the woods is quite dry.

I've not known it this dry here for quite a few years. Usually i don't need to top my pond up in Autumn/Winter, but i have had to this time around.

Hi Ray!
Here is the data for Weeley, Essex
La-Crosse WS2300 : 130mm / 5.11" (40 Rain Days) Total for 2012 is 59.1mm / 2.32"
Oregon Scientific WMR88 : 156.3mm / 6.15" (40 Rain Days) Total for 2012 is 65mm / 2.55"
I suspect that the La-Crosse possibly under-reads / Oregon over-reads / one of them has better accuracy!

Re: Drought declared in SE England - how much rain have you
Thanks to eveyone who contributed to this thread. I must admit to being a little disappointed at the number of responses compared to the number of stations running Cumulus. Looks like a lot of users don't scan these forums.
No real surprises that the wettest places are in Scotland / NW England and the driest in Essex. But 5-6" of rain in just under 3 months isn't desperately short of the averages. Might the real problem be one of over-population and / or too many water-driven devices such as dishwashers and multiple bathrooms per household?
Neither should we forget the poor leakage rates with as much as 30% lost to waste in the NW but at least we can afford it. You certainly can't in the drier regions.

Re: Drought declared in SE England - how much rain have you
Finally .. had some very wet weather here this morning.
Going by the last outputs from the GFS, PVA was very strong across Dorset/Hants/Wilts, so i'm not surprised there was some decent totals.
28mm here.
