Hi Guys
I have been interested (from a distance) in weather for several years, and now have a Maplin special and Cumulus running and speaking to Homeseer.
What I am missing from my education is just how various other data elements are calculated from the basic information that the weather station provides.
Is there an "idiots guide to weather" or similar good read that would explain this and also other correlations that are made?
Thanks in advance
David

I don't know if this is the sort of thing that will help. A few of us belong to a newsgroup called UK.Sci.weather and these are some FAQ's from that.

Hope it gets you started,

In fact the glossary section might be even more helpful because you can quickly look up terms alphabetically and get a brief explaination.

I'd like to get some more 'amateur weather-station' related stuff into the FAQs at some point. (I run the site, for those that don't know - but I certainly can't take any credit for the superb content!).

Re: Beginers Guide to Weather..
Thanks Both Dave and Steve
Dave - there is some excellent reading in that url - many thanks. I guess those that already know undervalue what has been written!
Steve - yes, would be worth a try, if you ever find the time... unless Dave fancies a challenge to author it all for you!??!?
I think for me, the starting point was trying to understand how, from the basic info provided by the "Maplin Special" station Cumulus works out the other info, then, from that, I began to question my understanding of other elements too - you know what its like... do you know enough to know what you dont know?.. thats where I am now...just!
I did notice that there is a "Dummies guide to weather" - does anyone have it, and if so, is it worth buying?

I've got a book called 'Philip's Guide to the Weather" by Ross Reynolds, which is quite good.

Are there any beginners' guides to calibrating your weather station?
