Re: New Record? Post here.
I don't remember any moorland fires last year, but there were plenty in the hot dry summer of 2018.

The fire on Saddleworth Moor east of Manchester was visible from space. Summer 2018.

HansR, is pwsFWI a seperate module or only part of your cumulusutils?HansR wrote: ↑Fri 07 Aug 2020 6:08 amAs EFFIS is now on the 'high danger' level for the fire danger forecast I am wondering if any of you on the other side of the channel would be interested to carry the pwsFWI on your site.
And are there actual forest fires in the UK?
Anyway, it is expected forest fires move north so that should be represented in the risk value during the season.

Thnx for the replies!
@ConligWX:
Btw although the last months most focus has been on the website generator, CumulusUtils has started as a module generator and the idea is to keep it that way.
Module users are e.g. in Poland, in France and in Australia. All three to be found on the map.
@mcrossley, @freddie, @RayProudfoot:
Yes, peatfires are wildfires as well, ignition only possible when the toplayer is dry enough to ignite. On the other hand, I know the UK pretty well and although forests of larger size are rare (new forest actually being the only one I have been to) I am pretty sure there is more forest and woodland in the UK than you are suggesting right now (watch out: very large dataset if you want to download). The forestry commission has a great task ahead to make their data a bit more accessible btw. But that's another story.
@ConligWX:
Can be used as a separate module (in which case I appreciate the combination with the map module or a link that I can enlist it).ConligWX wrote: ↑Fri 07 Aug 2020 9:18 amHansR, is pwsFWI a seperate module or only part of your cumulusutils?HansR wrote: ↑Fri 07 Aug 2020 6:08 amAs EFFIS is now on the 'high danger' level for the fire danger forecast I am wondering if any of you on the other side of the channel would be interested to carry the pwsFWI on your site.

Re: New Record? Post here.
Yep the UK is about 15% forest and woodland - but most of that is in the parts that are not often dry.

Re: New Record? Post here.
New temperature record of 32.3°C and heat index of 34.2°C.
Quite likely that 32°C will be achieved again tomorrow. That is exceptional heat for here.

You don't expect all-time records to be broken so it was quite a surprise so see the light flashing this afternoon.
Highest DP in over 11 years. No wonder it feels so uncomfortable.

Broke my temp record again today. 32.7°C
Remarkable values for being so close to the coast.

Re: New Record? Post here.
How far away are you? Today was the hottest up here but still 4°C less hot than July 2019. It’s the humidity that’s the killer today.

5 miles from the South facing coast and 3.5 miles West of Poole harbour, both as the crow flies.RayProudfoot wrote: ↑Tue 11 Aug 2020 5:42 pmHow far away are you? Today was the hottest up here but still 4°C less hot than July 2019. It’s the humidity that’s the killer today.

Phenomenal rain here in Bourne End, Bucks last night, amazing storm with a period of almost constant lightning.
