Keep an eye on your barometers from Saturday in to Sunday if you're in the UK.
Pressure could drop as much as 45mb in 24 hours for some!

Re: Barometer Watch
Oh goodie. You can’t beat a good pressure bomb. Just as long there’s no structural damage.

Re: Barometer Watch
Yep - I like extremes, so this is right up my street!
Under an Amber warning here, strongest winds of the year are forecast. A very potent squall line is likely too, as a vigorous cold front moves South. Quite the temperature gradient between the two upper air masses.

Re: Barometer Watch
The evening of the 27th looks to have the lowest forecast pressure of 969hPa. That's still so way off my record of 963hPa back in the stormy winter of 13/14.
Squall lines can be ferocious. One passed through my area on 9 Feb and produced a gust of 65mph which smashed my all-time record as well as several neighbour's roof tiles and fence panels. Keep us posted. You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Re: Barometer Watch
In NL the drop rate now is -1.3 hPa/hr and increasing.
Nice situation to adjust some alarm settings.
(and I am not on the west coast)

Re: Barometer Watch
Falling at -2.42 hPa near Manchester Airport. Pressure bomb well under way. 20hPa drop in 24 hours.
Incidentally, still not getting any email notifications.

Re: Barometer Watch
@RayProudfoot I'm still waiting on my ISP to make a change to a DNS record. Most email providers are accepting forum emails despite the DNS anomaly. Unfortunately BT Internet aren't. This will be unlikely to be resolved until next week.RayProudfoot wrote: ↑Sat 26 Dec 2020 6:22 pm Incidentally, still not getting any email notifications.
Apologies.

Re: Barometer Watch
Dropping fast here now.
Just had a few 47mph gusts. I'll probably stay up 'til around 4am to see what goes down!

Re: Barometer Watch
Pressure near Glasgow has fallen 44.8 hPa (from 1023.9 to 979.1) in the 24h since 2200 yesterday.
Wet (16.2 mm) and windy (max gust 26 mph) but does not really seem that severe here.

Thanks Freddie. Appreciate it’s nothing to do with Cumulus.

Re: Barometer Watch
Currently falling at 3.17 hPa / hour. 1025 down to 983 in 24 hours. 42hPa in 24 hours.
What a pity there wasn’t a tag for this. Must be close to an all-time record.

Re: Barometer Watch
Pressure still falling very rapidly. That’s over 12 hours now and a rough calculation is it’s fallen from 1023hPa to 977hPa in the last 24 hours. 46hPa in 24 hours is almost two pressure bombs.

That's a good record.RayProudfoot wrote: ↑Sun 27 Dec 2020 1:13 am Pressure still falling very rapidly. That’s over 12 hours now and a rough calculation is it’s fallen from 1023hPa to 977hPa in the last 24 hours. 46hPa in 24 hours is almost two pressure bombs.
I got around 35hPa for my daily stat. It's a shame that the pressure started to fall later in the day, otherwise it would have been a greater drop.
Worth watching tomorrow night and in to Monday as well. This low pressure deepens again across Western Scotland and then starts moving Southeast. You may get close to 960hPa around 3am on Monday, Ray.

Re: Barometer Watch
Mmm... 35 hPa in 24 hrs (roughly) and now -2 per hr. Still nice
Wind sensor evidently wrongly placed
