Tasmanian Fires 2019

Post by BeaumarisWX »

We have had chocking smoke on/off for a week and a half now, from fires started by dry storms/lightning.
Tomorrow same type storms forecast and the already burning fires due to hit us sometime during the day, if the weather does not assist tomorrow it will barrel straight over the top of us and temp hot for here at 33c or more.
Luckily we have the place secure, though the chook's and sheep will be on their own as they have plenty of clear pasture to run around and get low.
Many of the residents in the Huon Valley area have moved out, I'll stay unless it gets too bad at this stage ok.

We are roughly where I placed a red dot above.

Hi Tony,
There are many different weather events that affect our lives, but fire is the most dangerous and damaging. Stay safe!!

Hi,
Update all hunkered down and prepped (all Good) at this stage, the fire has flanked us though if the afternoon/evening wind shift does occur. It could result in the fire flank becoming a fire front, though still a possibility it would not reach us.
Just in stay and watch and prepped mode.

Max Temp so far 36.8°C not a record for here (last was Highest Temperature 41.4 °C at 14:36 on 04 January 2013).

Last Tuesday was a chocking day smoke wise, my 24/7 Time-lapse is not perfect but good to watch fast forward to 06:00hrs and watch till about 21:30 hrs. We where trapped in an inversion layer so the smoke could not escape the entire Huon Valley area, although we where not in danger of fire, good to watch for those who are into that. https://southfranklinweather.com/vidtemp/Tue1.mp4.
If above does not work try https://southfranklinweather.com/webcamip/Tue.mp4 though it will be overwritten next Tuesday.

Tony Beaumaris, Tasmania (AUS)

Hi Tony - must a bit frightening after all the fire disaters around the world in the last 12 months

Both those links came back Forbidden: 403 to me.

Got to it: https://southfranklinweather.com/webcamip/Tue.mp4 via https://southfranklinweather.com/weathe ... elapse.php

BTW - do you archive your time-lapse, might have something for you ...Here and Here - literally just being coding it. Self housekeeping, just need files in the right name format.

Hope you suddenly don't get a surplus of roast chicken :groan:

Hi beteljuice,
 Thanks matey, no I think the chook's will be OK.
I just took some extra feed down for the Sheep.
Adjusted the Webcam to look more to SSE over the Cottage we rent out below us and currently the sheep are on far right paddock, they normally use the big paddock behind the main house but they tend to look for lowest ground when smoke is around.

I fixed the 403 issue and I do achieve this time-lapse but I like high quality (well as best I can reduce without too much grain) so as a result my files are large, so only store last 7 days online.

I'll take up your offer of your concept though for future ref as "GUESS WHAT" the site will be shutting down for good in next couple of weeks or so.

My back has finally failed and now have other health issues so as I can no longer maintain the 6.8 acres myself nor afford to pay someone to do it, we have been forced to sell up and find somewhere smaller (hopefully not too far away , but still in Tasmania. We are about a third of the way through prepping for sale, so all house contents now in the 16x6 shed awaiting sale (some gone) we are down to 3 mattresses and 3 camping chairs and some kitchen stuff in the house.

Painters about a third done(but not working today because of fire), then we get floor coverings done then main garden areas tidied up tonnes of work to to there. then if when well sell we will rent until we find somewhere else to live, so will be a while before I attempt a new location station.

I think I'll find it hard not to at least set up an inhouse station and definitely my wxsim forecast software.

I'll ref this post in future regards the archive script.
Kind regards,
Tony Beaumaris, Tasmania (AUS)

Wishing you all the best Tony and hopefully you will still have a chance to post and keep on contact.

Looking at your time-lapse, while we have been down under in AU about a dozen years ago it still looks very strange to see that globe in the sky go the wrong other way...

Enjoy,
Paul

Hi beteljuice,
Yes daunting times ahead, though looking forward to it, but sad to leave this property, I will miss the view big time.
Thank you greatly appreciated and yes many locals have mentioned that already.

Where do I see cold in that 7 day forecast ;) We haven't seen 8°C for nearly a month and that would be a nice relief for us.
all cold weather stuff packed away for the move
What does that consist of, long sleeve shirt and socks

Glad you've missed most of the direct fire effect, and stay cool.

Update : Fires well and truly gone and house prep for sale done.
Weather Website shut down just after fires were stabilised, in order to concentrate on house/property.
Still running website internal using xampp, till we hopefully sell and move to new place where ever that may be, looking at St Helens area North East Coast Tasmania.

House finally on market last Monday (no offers yet, so still in limbo till it sells).

When I do start up again I'll be looking at all the options for best performance setup and cheapest running cost for hardware.
