About wind hills or flat more windy?

so i want know which one is more windy flat land or hills how come down Tasmania is more windy than QLD i dont understand i would like to learn about landscape wind

In general it will be stronger on hilltops as they stick up into the "free" atmosphere and are less affected by the frictional effect of the ground.
