Winter 2015-16 is finished in the Northern Hemisphere and here are some stats from what has been the warmest winter for many years in the majority of the UK.

Warmest day 15.2°C on 19 December

Wettest day 0.73" (18.5mm) on 26 December
Overall rainfall was 11.92" (303mm) - 3.85" (97.8mm) - 48% above the 30 year average.
A new station record of 19 days with rain ended on 17 January.
Average temperature was 7.1°C. A massive 2.5°C above the 30 year average.

In short, warm and wet. :)

Yes Ray it would seem so, in December alone the weather station measured 648mm (25.5").
It was very wet in this part of the country, we still have bridge closures and roads impassable because by the amount of rain that fell.

Hi Richard,

I'm well aware of the horrendous weather you chaps had up there in Cumbria but needed to check the total. Absolutely staggered that you got more in December than the SE of England gets in a year!

Not a record that is likely to be broken for some time I imagine.

Hi Ray

This may be down to the inaccuracies of the fine offset weather station but as it's the only data I have I will have to go with it

I can't imagine it's wildly out Richard. In any case most of us don't site our rain gauges optimally. Mine is at 5ft when it should be at 1ft. Even that will make a difference.

Steve, how small your temp deviation is. And not particularly wet either. Big difference is the wind which I failed to mention. 46mph on 30 December. I'm almost embarrassed to mention it!

Ours is considered very mild. We did have some cold days but the talk is about our record highs. Quite a number of snow days but not of vey high volumes. Driving conditions were only severely interrupted a few times.

Temp Max.: Dec 15.8° (a record) Jan 11.1° (record of 14.0° in 2013) Feb 15.3° (a record)
Temp Min: Dec -6.9° Jan -20.2° Feb -24.2° (record -29.8° Feb 2015)
Temp Mean: Dec 4.4° Jan -3.5° Feb -1.5° Season -0.2° (2008-2016 average -3.5°

We can't compare rain days due to long freezing periods, but
Snow fall: 34 of 91 days, 106.3 cm new snow (many days just traces and no accumulation)
Consecutive days of snow fall: 10 days, Feb 9 - 18
Snow on Ground: 53 of 91 days, sum of all snow on the ground 360.1 cm (often melted during the warm days)
Consecutive days snow on ground: 21 days, Jan 11 - 31 (in 2015 89 days consecutive days snow on the ground - Jan 3 to Apr 2)

But then today we are expecting a severe snow storm to arrive. Hopefully - March in like a Lion, Out like a Lamb...

Paul

El Niño gave us a very mild winter here in Central New York, one cold spell mid Feb, otherwise mild.

Temp Max: 66.6 F (12-24-2015)
Temp Min: -20.5 F (2-14-2016) Record
Mean: 32.3 F
Rain: 9.14 in
Max rain day: 1.75 in (2-16-2016)
Snow: 55.75 in 27 days of snow falling. Average season is:127 in

We can still get some good snowfall during March, so we don't usually call it over till the end of March,
