August was mixed here; wettest August at 132mm, but also highest August temperature at 19.1C. And on Monday to Wednesday last week, we had our first "holiday" for many years, on mainland Orkney, in the old motorhome that we've just bought, and we had fabulous weather - warm sunshine, clear skies, and light winds.

Average monthly temperature of 15.9 C
Minimum temperatures ranged from 6.1 to 13.8 C with an average of 10.2 C
Maximum temperatures ranged from 15.8 to 26.9 C with an average of 21.6 C
Minimum ground temperature averaged 7.5 C and ranged from 3.9 to 12 C
The difference between the air and ground temperature ranged from 1.2 to 3.9 C with a monthly average of 2.7 C.

In August 98.4 mm of rain was recorded which is 65.4 mm above average with 8 days of rain recorded (3 days above average). The yearly total is at 450.4 mm which is 293 mm below average. Less rainfall than normal was recorded between April and July after major rain in March hence the lower yearly total.

Highest Wind Gust of 66.1 km/h on the 18th and a total wind run of 1890.6km.
Air pressure was between 1006.8 hPa on the 17th and 1032.6 hPa on the 6th.
Humidity was between 11% on the 2nd and 99% on the 23rd.

A totally lousy August down here on the east coast of the North Island, NZ. The coldest I have recorded prior Cumulus and beyond.
20 rain days but only a month total of 106mm which is slightly under the August norm. Just day in and day out of gray skies and a wicked southerly on and off.

I don't report August 2014 it was cold and wet we were in the run for the warmest calenderyear ever since official measurements started in 1900 august screwed it up
