December Rainfalls

Post by BillW » Tue 31 Dec 2013 8:20 pm

Hi,

I saw some staggering figures for rainfalls across some parts of England a few days ago.
I've just tallied up my own measurements for December and it's 175.3mm for the month.
That's a touch wetter than my running average.

How have others done this December?

Cheers,
Bill.

Hi Bill,

My December rainfall of 3.18" (81mm) was just 0.03" below the December average. In fact only 3 months had above average rainfall in 2013. A welcome relief after 2012.

I suspect stations in the south of England will tell a very different story.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

I'm on the opposite coast, and measured 101.2mm where long term average is 64.8mm (156%)

Not surprisingly (but comforting) to see my figure for December tallies quite nicely with Ray's. 82.8mm or just 1.4mm more than the regional average.

Given how variable rainfall is I'm surprised our two readings are so similar. Perhaps frontal rain is equally shared as opposed to showery precipitation.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

My total December rainfall is 222mm, not very well shared out me thinks.

At North West Devon, the December total was 152.1mm
That's about 50mm above the local average, but not as high as last year with 183mm.
Some of those recent heavy fronts just brushed the north Devon coast with their ragged tails! :)
