Mark,

I think your record will go. Although pressure is still dropping it's only 2.12hPa/hr now. Still producing an impressive graph.

My December record low is 971.56 on 14 Dec last year. That looks vulnerable.

Never mind the pressure records, the downpour we just had that flooded the road up to a neighbours front door just broke some December records (and I was out getting some last minute bits'n'pieces in it :( ):

Code: Select all

Highest Rain Rate	90.8 mm/hr	23-Dec-2013 at 15:05
Highest Hourly Rainfall	11.4 mm	23-Dec-2013 at 15:14
And the years highest average wind speed for me today at 21 mph.

Similar readings here Mark...

Rainfall Rate Max 4.09 in/hr at 14:53 but it doesn't come close to last Wednesday's deluge of 6.19" / hr which remains my highest December rain rate.

Hope you've dried out now. Looks like pressure has bottomed out at 978hpa just after 4pm.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

That is one heck of a rain rate! :o

We've had very little rain (so far?) - just 5.2mm today with the highest hourly of 2.6mm at 1223 with rate of 12mm/hr. It was, rain-wise, a lot heavier and harder this time last year.

December 2013 UK Storms pressure changes.

Post by logjam »

Well, I didn't break any records this time, although the wind speeds and gusts came pretty close. I was a bit too far south to get the lowest pressure but again I was within about 6 of my record. Still, there is always Friday. A low may come a little further south that day. We didn't get a great deal of rain either, but what we are getting is coming off the fields and flooding the roads

EDIT: 19:43. The pressure has started dropping significantly once more, so who knows. It now only needs to drop 2.5.

Yes, it's falling quickly again here now, and down to 974.7hPa... No further rain yet though and wind relatively quiet at F3...

Pressure falling very rapidly - for the second time today. Looks like my all-time record of 969.6 (14 Dec 2012) might be up for beating!

Same here - pressure falling very rapidly .... again! December record has gone and it's only 3.2hPa from my all-time record of 966.85 back on 8 Nov 2010. Suspect it will go before midnight.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

All-time low pressure record well and truly smashed. 965.1 and still falling at 2.7hPa/hr. Unprecedented day.

Looks like the minimum occurred here just before midnight, a new all time low of 964.5 hPa at 23:52 on 23 December 2013. Previous was 965.7 hPa on 2010-11-08.

The pressure change yesterday was also a record breaking 43.3 hPa.

Other December records broken were:
Highest Rain Rate of 90.8 mm/hr at 15:05
Highest Hourly Rainfall of 11.4 mm at 15:14
Highest Daily Rainfall of 19.0 mm

Quite a day!

It looks like Steve will cop it tomorrow evening, hope it goes OK Steve.

Things are looking pretty violent to there! My best wishes! In here everything is of course much calmer but we'll have some strong wind and significant rain, let's hope the trusty FO handles this. It's so random
