July 2013 in Europe/UK/World

Post by weatherfrog80 »

We are finally heading into a sunny and warm weekend in Northern Germany, with pleasant dry air and temperatures between about 22°C near the coast and 25°C further inland.
The only drawback might be if the wind shifts to Northwest, which would mean then it could bring thick stratus clouds from the North sea, in that case the temperature would stay below 20°C, on the other hand this would only have effects on the immediate coastline and a few kilometers further inland.

So great summer weather for cycling tours, barbecue evenings or just enjoying the sun at the beach or on the sun bed. 8-) It was about time!

Cheers

Georg

This weekend was rather cool here with highs of 16-18°C, thanks to the north sea clouds drifting in- but this will hopefully change tomorrow here..

Not sure if High "Xena" is finally weakening a little - I have my highest high temperature on July 13th of 27.9 at 1621, with a highest heat index of 28.8 at 1449hrs (BST). Definitely been cooler since, but only just! Fantastic!!

"So it is."
"And freezing."
"Is it?"
"Yes," said Eeyore. "However," he said, brightening up a little, "we haven't had an earthquake lately.”

Back home in England after a week in southern Spain. Not much cooler here!

My all-time high of 30.4C still remain. It's been hot here but not exceptionally so. Maxima around 28C for a number of days. It's been hotter in the south east of England but that is normal. The only records broken at my site are monthly average temp and highest pressure.

The high now sits to the south of Ireland which is bringing light winds from the west to the northern half of the UK. This will not cause records to be broken. If the high shifts to the east - over the Netherlands or Denmark - then temps in the northern UK may well rise over 30C.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

I'm pretty confident my all-time high temperature is going to be broken this afternoon. It's already hotter than yesterday's maximum of 29.2 and the hottest part of the day is still 3-4 hours away.

So watch out for that flashing green light! Who would have thought that back in March? :D

LATER: Four year-old record has gone. Currently 30.5C. Will post maximum this evening. :D
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

Mark,

Almost identical maxima today but quite a difference for 27/6/11. My maximum that day was a mere 28.7. Was your station in the same position?
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

Not quite, a few feet away, but the old record was set with a Fine Offset. It was out of direct sun for the bulk of the day, though the air flow wasn't as good.

That probably accounts for the difference. Our temperatures are much closer these days although your night-time minima are still a bit lower.

Expexted heatwave in The Netherlands

Post by nitrx »

It's actual 30.2 C and rising Today will be a tropical day ( => 30 C is a tropical day accordording the Dutch MET Office KNMI) We expect a tropical day on monday an tuesday too wednesday and thursday are expexted => 25 C.

An official Heatwave counts here when there are at last five summerdays ( => 25 C) on a row and at least 3 days of them must exceed 30 C
The last heatwave was in 2006.

A 16 day run of temps over 21C is coming to an end today. That is a new record for this station.

Pity as tomorrow is forecast to around 27C so the record could have hit 20+ by the end of the week.
Cheers,
Ray, Cheshire.

We had the hottest day of the year so far with 29.8°C- only 2 tenths shy of a hot day (that's how we call days with a maximum of 30°C or more). 8-)

Today’s broken my all-time records with a high of 32.8c and THSW of 41c. Including today we have had 19 days over 21c; 11 of those between 25c and 30c, and 4 over 30c. So far for July we’ve had 221 hours of sunshine, and just 3.2mm of rain.

Despite upcoming storms, I doubt they will make much of a dent in low rainfall since the start of June. June and July total is only 27.4mm, down 74.1mm on the average. During June and July the ET so far is 171.6mm !
