Re: Anemometer just broke!

Ray, the problem you've seen is with the older pattern of wind cups. For the past few years, the cups have been a stronger all-in-one moulding (ie the separate individual cups are no longer used). This is an illustration of the incremental updates to the Davis stations that happen on a frequent basi...

Re: Anemometer just broke!

I'm curious as to what people think can be improved on the latest versions of the Davis T/H and wind sensors (at least short of a complete technology change like moving to an ultrasonic anemometer, which brings its own set of issues). The Rev J version of the VP2 T/H sensor is totally encapsulated o...

Re: Virtual serial port problem

I can see the virtual serial port in my device manager (USBXpress) That's not a virtual serial port - it's a USBXpress port. A VCP (virtual com port) would appear in the Ports section of Device Manager, not the USB section. You need to change the logger mode with the Windows conversion utility - se...

Re: USB to Ethernet

I'm not sure that we're quite talking about the same thing here, but certainly for the Silex device I referred to, this was used for 2-3 years without - so far as I can recall - a single problem with a 6510USB logger. Indeed it was quite an attractive way around the USB port dropout issue. In this c...

Re: USB to Ethernet

You could try something like this: http://www.tradescanners.com/silex/sx2000wg.php I've used one of these with a USB logger and it worked fine. But this is a non-mainstream product and I can't guarantee that you might not hit some sort of issue specific to your network or configuration. So this is m...

Re: Hardware needs

We do have an information page about choosing a dedicated weather PC on our website at: http://www.weatherstations.co.uk/dedicatedwxPC.htm This isn't Cumulus-specific at all, but the broad hardware advice might be useful. The only problem is that this sort of pointer page ages quite quickly - tradit...

Re: Wind sensors finally up on the roof

Ah yes, sorry, I remember now. Been too busy I'm afraid the past few weeks. But still seems to be working well. That low on the models for Dec 5th might give it a good test (if it ever happens in reality of course).

Edit: I see you're also looking to test the top end of the pressure dial!

Re: Wind sensors finally up on the roof

Enough wind to see Climatica working though. What interval is set currently - looks quite short - 3 secs?

Re: Wake up - Side Load - Up Load - Sleep

Hello, I am wondering how difficult it would be to periodically... ...wake my PC up ... My first question would be why you might want to do that? If it's to save energy then the best solution is to use a small netbook (or better still, the modern AMD equivalent with an 11.6" screen) as a dedic...

Re: Is Cumulus right for me?

Yep. I've installed it and hooked up to publicly available stations. The app is pretty poor. Very limited weather reporting functionality, no historical data (current figures only), bad UI... just not a good product. I have read that your own private archive data is available on the Weatherlink.com...

Re: Which Weather Station should I buy?

Hi John, Thanks for clearing up any confusion caused by my post. No need for the  in the slightest. It remains a rather confusing and messy situation and I'm not 100% sure that I'm totally up-to-date, hence my caveat about Rob/Belfryboy possibly being more able to offer a definitive vi...

Re: Which Weather Station should I buy?

Sadly not Tim. But an alternative logger is available from a source in this forum. I haven't used it myself but if you search for belfryboy you can find out more. As far as I'm aware, there is no alternative logger that will work with the current so-called 'green-dot' versions of the Davis Vue and ...

Re: A novel real-time gauge display

[from afar, well the IOW at least] Mark, what's 'initial load'? Is that first time ever? Or first time in a session? Looking at my server, clearing the browser cache still gives a reload in around a second, but maybe that's not a good test? What's the initial load time for you from the elyweather si...

Weathershop???

Anyone got any first-hand info on the status of Weathershop/Weatherfront - the shop seems to have been offline most/all of this week?

(We've obviously got an interest and so keep an eye on competitor pricing, but just plain curious too.)

If it's so damaged that it's not working at all then yes you can power off a regular VP2 5v mains adapter. Alternatively (and assuming that the supercap is intact) just change the battery every 6 months or so.
