Re: Wind vane on WS1081

Harry, I probably come from the same sort of background as you....always been a fixit man. See www.janter.co.nz From my point of view, I see no benefit to me, to have the extra compass points. I am quite happy to see the wind is generally in one of the 8 directions roughly speaking. It will be inter...

Re: Wind vane on WS1081

Wouldn't adding the extra reeds screw up the desktop display? And also easyweather, if you still use it occassionally. Adding any LED's to the circuit would take away the meaning of "Wireless" as your batteries would die quickly and you would need permanent power. I don't see why you need ...

Re: Wind vane on WS1081

Harry. I'm sure you're right about the output just being varying voltage levels as there is no smarts in the unit at all to give digital out. I looked at mine when I had it off the pole once and could see nothing to suggest otherwise. I never measured the output with a scope though to determine whic...

Re: Large Outside Temp Fluctuations

Can I suggest that you have a downward loop in the cables, to stop the water running down the cables and inside the unit. Water will then run down to the bottom of the loop and drop off.

One-nil. Do you keep your inside temp sensor in your fridge or just wear lots of clothes?

Re: Cumulus and 800x600 res

One thing about the recent changes to the screen resizing that I noticed, is that the Cumulus window opens half way across my 2 monitors. It used to open on Monitor 1 of my dual monitor setup but is now half an half.
I've seen this with other programmes and isn't really a problem but worth noting.

Maybe you did a "Move" when you backed up? Forgot to press the ctrl key? Just a thought. Done that myself :-)

Re: Davis Radiation shield

Morelo Does your transmitter not come with the plastic weather shield as supplied on the wh1081? I just mount my transmitter up under the eaves of the house where it never gets any sun, and is exposed to some wind but not rain. I haven't had any reason to use any other weather shield than the one su...

Re: WH1080 - display unit <> weather station link

"Query" is probably better to be "Listen" to the transmitter maybe :-)
Handshake would be nicer but not available.
It certainly is necessary to activate the Transmitter prior to the Base Station and this includes having the USB cable disconnected.

433MHz. in New Zealand. Frequency varies depending on local standards. I think.

I like the description of "excited transmitters" :-)

Re: Display contrast adjustment!

My supplier of the 1081 has recently brought in a new batch and I posted one out this morning. The next one through I will peek inside the console and see what mods are done, if they are done.

Re: WH1080 - display unit <> weather station link

If you look at the installation page for the 1081 then it says to turn on the transmitter first before the desktop console. I would assume the Console then queries the transmitter and sets itself to that particular transmitter. Maybe I can put a spare transmitter in the fridge and see what I get for...

Re: Rain Rate - explain please

Steve I had a situation this morning where my Rainfall Rate was up around 200mm/hr. The problem was due to the Hibernate last night. What I normally do is to press the Power Button to start the Hibernate process, Cumulus brings up it's "shutdown" yes/no and I answer yes and all is OK. Last...

Re: problem with cumulus 1.8.4

I do wonder what will happen with EW once I get a years data. Maybe a day to workout everything :-) There's obviously a lesson here in the way that EW appears to just keep adding to the one database. Cumulus certainly treats this problem much better. Interestingly, after being away for the weekend a...
