Re: Erroneous max temp

Nick, Your rainfall records look a little suspect on your all-time page. I'm assuming there wasn't a downpour of biblical proportions in Suffolk on 3 July. The high wind gust of 99mph on 20 July also looks suspect. You may need to use the dayfile.txt editor to correct those values which should then ...

Re: Erroneous max temp

Nick,

Yesterday's data is stored in yesterday.ini in the data folder. You have 6 hours left to correct it. ;)

Re: What Security System Do You Use, ie. Firewall

Cumulus runs on a netbook used exclusively for weather purposes. I run the XP firewall. That's it.

Never had a problem in over 2 years.

Re: Average Wind Speed confusion

Interesting comparison between a squall this afternoon and yesterday's ex-hurricane. My highest 10-min average wind speed yesterday was 17mph but that was beaten today with 18mph at 16:01 as a short but quite pronounced squall passed through this area. Highest gust was also 36mph. Temperature fell 8...

Re: Average Wind Speed confusion

Mark's readings were 26.4mph at 09:04 and 30.4mph at 09:09 suggesting the average should be 28.4 but it's 30.8mph. You can't calculate his average wind speed at 0908 by averaging his average wind speeds at 0904 and 0909. There's no reason why his average couldn't have been higher than either of tho...

Re: Average Wind Speed confusion

Ray, the WOW site shows a good comparison of today's wind on both our stations I think. Indeed it does, thanks Mark. Don't forget my wind speed sensor is much lower than yours and tree shaded (though not as badly for N/S wind directions as E/W) so I also apply a correction factor to it to 'lift' th...

Re: Average Wind Speed confusion

That just demonstrates how you can never compare your data with anyone else's unless you have exactly the same equipment, both sited in ideal conditions. Fine Offset stations present their wind data in a completely different way to Davis stations. Looking at your wind graph and Mark's, it looks lik...

Average Wind Speed confusion

My station in Cheadle Hulme is about 4 miles north of Mark Crossley's in Wilmslow. We're both running build 1011. Today's Average Wind Speed for Mark's station is 30.8mph at 09:08 . Mine is 17mph at 09:13 . Mark's Wind Run is 183 miles, mine is 189.4 miles. How can two stations so close together wit...

Re: Hurricane Katia might get to the UK on Monday

Highest gust here was 36mph at 08:53 this morning. That won't even beat 40mph back in February let alone my high gust of 46mph back in Nov 2010. :?

Quite disappointing although my fence panels might have a different view.

Free for 30 days Mark. Yes, it works well. I run WeatherLink, Cumulus and VPLive. I also used to run Cumulus2.

Re: serial or usb

I have had a VP2 connected via a USB cable to a Samsung netbook since May 2009. In all that time everything has behaved impeccably. I'm sure you'll be fine with USB.

Re: Hurricane Katia might get to the UK on Monday

I watched the BBC1 weather forecast at 6:30pm tonight and the presenter talked about strong winds and rain on Monday but made no mention of ex-hurricane Katia. I despair, I really do. The powers that be probably think any mention of a hurricane will have everybody running round like headless...

Re: Do you read a software agreement?

I never read them either. I vaguely remember from years ago one Microsoft agreement ran to over 40 pages of A4 when pasted in Word. That is disgraceful!
