Re: Extending wind cable
I'm thinking... if we can create some local sources for extension cables (people who have access to an RJ11 crimp tool), we could supply them to people in our region, so a fairly exact length needed. I know that, for network purposes, the max length of cat5/cat6 UTP (a good qiality network cable) is...

Re: It looks like the end of the cold spell for us
Turned out to be "snow on Saturday, and that's the end of this cold spell." This morning, we're at 2.6 above, 998 hPa and falling, wind Bf4 from the south, and patches of rain. The white stuff out in the garden looks horrible now... I guess we'll be rid of it on Wednesday. The outlook is t...

Re: Conditional automatic start of Cumulus on computer start
That would be the timeout of 30 seconds. Les wants to be able to, if he restarts his machine, decide to NOT start Cumulus.

Re: Running Cumulus as a Windows Service
No prob. It wasn't mentioned anywhere in my rant because I simply hadn't considered the idea that it would NOT be possible. The omission is entirely on my part - I admit that I am not always consciously aware that whatever is obvious to be is also obvious to others. Hence my reaction that it went wi...

Re: Running Cumulus as a Windows Service
That goes without saying. I'd be really (and I mean REALLY) stupid if this would not be possible.BCJKiwi wrote:Fifth reason?
So you can run the 'front end' console on a different PC from the one running Cumulus-as-a-service.
Now that would be really useful.

Re: Running Cumulus as a Windows Service
Steve, you are *not* doing yourself propâh justice. Cumulus 2 would've been a lot better.
Compared to Cumulus 2, the solution I am thinking of, while offering similar functionality... is still a horrible kludge. Cumulus 2 would have been a *lot* more elegant from an architectural point of view.

Re: Running Cumulus as a Windows Service
Having said (and whispered) quite ambitious things, I have to add that I am not very well-versed at writing UI's. I can do the front end that extracts data from a data repository, but UI's ... let's just say I don't do UI's professionally. I am purely a back end guy. So if I have to come up with a u...

Running Cumulus as a Windows Service
There are a couple solutions to make a program that is designed to run at the console (on your screen) as a service. For the non-geeks: Cumulus is a program that will run interactively, on your Windows box, if you logon and start it. A Windows Service can be configured to run whenever the PC is powe...

Re: Unreliable Fine Offset
Do you have to have the station plugged to the computer all the time? I though you could just wait until the console memory was full and then download to the PC, erase the console memory and start again You could, but then you don't have constant updates to your web site, of course ;-) Also, if you...

Re: Fine Offset - Despite the problems...
My FO WH3081, equipped with the standard radiation shield, shows wild temperature and humidity deviations once the sun comes out. This desperately needs to be, and will soon be, cured with a Stevenson screen. How many extra ºC deviation can it show on direct sun vs a properly shielded station like ...

Looks like we're getting that (or whatever's left of it) when you guys are done with it.
