Re: Webcam Servers
If you have a PC with a wireless network card, would be worth downloading netstumbler http://stumbler.net/ it will find any used WiFi channels so you know which ones to avoid, it will also allow you to check the wireless signal strength around your property.

Re: Placing a webcam and other peoples' privacy
One of my favourite places, and my favourite webcams. http://www.shetland.org/60NTV/ The view of the city centre shows pretty well what people are up to, watched Up Helly Aa http://www.uphellyaa.org/ on the cameras a couple of weeks ago, was brilliant. As for the holiday accommodation it may actuall...

I have forgotten what the graph looked like before, so here are a grab of wind strength and direction for you to make your own mind up.

Re: Webcam Servers
Helen a couple of things that may help you work it all out ;) Weather stations generally work on a public frequency of around 486MHz though this may be slightly different in the states. Things that can interfere with weather stations are, radio hams (some use the frequency), walky talkies (the domes...

Re: Smoothing out the graphs!
Another nicey if at all possible, if the wind is mainly from North would it be possible to have the graph change so that N is the centre point?

Just a note to the wise, always make sure any fan you use is moving the air away from the temperature sensor. If you use the fan to blow onto the sensor the heat from the fan motor could influence (even if only slightly) your readings.

Re: Webcam Servers
The one I suggested is WiFi, it connects to your router by either cat5 or WiFi signal so no probs with interferenceGina wrote:Beware of using a wireless webcam that uses the same frequency as wireless LAN or even that of your weather station. Interference could be a problem.

Re: Webcam Servers
Ahaaaa, very clever! However I think of the config I definitely need wireless, so the wireless model of yours does it at a reasonable price. Can you zoom in with it? No zoom I am afraid. Also ignore the Maplin Q&A they seem to suggest it can be used outside... it can't unless you put it in some...

Re: Webcam Servers
Positioning is very easy, it comes with a wall mount that has a ball head this can be adjusted and locked into position. The mount screws into the camera using a standard tripod threaded socket so other options would also be possible (eg buy a clamp type tripod and use that instead). Would grab you ...

Re: Updated: Wind direction indicator - tail mods plus some Q's
All done (just needs painting), I wanted to get a weather vane that looked a bit more traditional.
So a couple of bits of plasticard, some glue, and a bit of copper pipe later... Jury is out on if it has improved the stability as it has been dead calm here since refitting.

Re: Webcam Servers
I use the wired version of this http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=256534 works really well, will upload images by ftp at pre-defined intervals, and you can also access it live. Can be set to keep overwriting the old file (which is ideal for a web page). It does other stuff like motion sen...

I am currently improving my weather vane, will get some pictures up when I am done... anyway little tip for balancing the vane, 15mm copper water pipe is a lovely fit over the nose.

Re: How To:- Filter for rain gauge
So .... once you've glued your mesh in place you can't remove the cover for maintenance ? Yes you can, the clips are a bit further out than daj has shown. The mesh just clears the top of the clips so they can be pushed in without any problems using a screwdriver or similar. The mesh is not glued on...
