Re: Davis Weather Vue

Hi Nick, The Fine Offset is also just under a year old, and I have no rain gauge now (no spiders or webs, just dead). .... Have tried to locate spare rain gauges for F/O bot they do not see to be available anywhere. The FO rain sensor is very simple (so potentially very easily repaired) and I believ...

Re: WMR88

Hi Ian, Yes, interference is a risk with any of the "License Exempt" frequencies, but that's the penalty for not having to buy (and comply with) a radio communications license. However, the risk should be fairly small because these particular ISM (Industrial, Scientific and Medical) bands ...

Re: WH3080 Will it work in South Africa

Hi,

Try to test it all in the UK first if you can (assuming you're buying it here) as the Quality Control of these Chinese Fine Offset stations is not all that it might be.

Cheers, Alan.

Re: WH3080 Will it work in South Africa

Hi, AFAIK the time signal data is not transmitted in SA and the expected range is only about 1,000 miles from Germany. So the 3081 would be as suitable if you can find it more cheaply. However, you can manually set the time on the 3080 so it should still be completely usable. Might even avoid issues...

Re: Spiders

Hi Frederick,

Is "Weathereye" a Fine Offset station?

Try a forum search on "Spiders rain" for links such as this and you should find some helpful suggestions.

Cheers, Alan.

Re: Spikes and repeated readings

Hi, Yes, changing the batteries is definitely the first thing to try. If you have any AA NiMH batteries you could try these just to test the station (don't use long-term because they self-discharge very quickly). They will deliver about 1.25 volts (each) which is about the voltage when the low batte...

Re: WH-3080 Transmitter Batteries

Hi Geoff, Just put in fresh cheap standard alkalines for now! It's probably worth changing the orientation (antenna direction) of the various units (and of course checking for interference) but the maximum range of the FO units does seem quite variable (my 1081 is very good but a 3080 which I insrta...

Re: WH-3080 Transmitter Batteries

Hi Geoff, They shouldn't need replacing yet, but I'm not sure that even FO know! Their manual says that you should use rechargeable alkalines but then says something like that for low temperatures you should use the (unspecified) "correct" batteries (I don't have the manual to hand...

Re: New Out of the box WH3080 not reading the external senso

Hi, That it did work once does rather exonerate FO's dubious Quality Control. If the red (transmit) LED is flashing and the LCD panel working then reversed batteries are unlikely to have been the cause. So check for radio interference from for example, mobile/cordless phones, WiFi and homeplug (main...

Re: No Rain Readings

Hi Geoff, The rain sensor consists only a magnetic reed switch which connects the two wires together whilst the see-saw tips. Poor contact in the connectors seems to be a common problem. To exclude spiders just glue a small piece of gauze of some type across each exit hole. I used nylon loudspeaker ...

Re: Wind Direction

Hi Alan, Did you put a compensating weight at the front and/or is the axis absolutely vertical? Can you see which way the vane is actually pointing? You might be able to check the resistance of the sensor unit with a multimeter and compare that with the values posted by Gina at the end of this page ...

Re: New Out of the box WH3080 not reading the external senso

Hi, Have you waited at least 5 - 10 minutes after the batteries have been inserted? I believe that soon after inserting the batteries the 3080 transmitter unit goes away for several minutes to look for the radio timesignal. I don't have the manual to hand, but I think that page 4 explains (in fractu...

Re: Newbie Questions

First, in the bottom right corner, is the Wind Rose. How do you read it? Also, there is nothing more than one thin blue line, pointing East. Shouldn't there be more to it? Or is the lack of data due to the fact that my system has only been set up a couple of days? As you can see, the wind has been ...

Re: How accurate are the OE weather station temperature guag

Hi, The FO screen seems particularly poor in direct sunlight perhaps because the transmitter box actually touches the screen discs. It depends if you're working in degrees F or C, but IMHO the error can be much worse than +10%. :o Temporarily (as a test), I've used a "quick and dirty" moun...

Re: Fine Offset Battery Meter

if it can't work at my place then it's clearly not up to all that much! ;) Hi Ian, That was my point. The 50m specified by FO may be "optimistic" (although I tested my 1081 to work over that range, even with 2.4v from the batteries) but all units should work "line of sight" up t...
