Re: Fine Offset Battery Meter
they have issued a return number and instructions along with a request for as much detailed information for their engineers to test it on arrival with them. Hi Ian, Poor transmitter range is probably the easiest fault to demonstrate, but lots of space is needed - just a kitchen table (or even labor...

Re: Fine Offset Battery Meter
Hi Ian, Did the Low TX icon come on at midnight and is it still on 24 hours later? In my experience it only updates at midnight. The threshold on my unit is about 2.5 volts (1.25v per cell) so there is still some life in the cells, but they certainly shouldn't be that low in only a month (I've teste...

Re: solar and UV readout
Hi,
The Solar Unit appears to have a completely separate microcontroller. Is the red LED in front of the PV cell flashing once per minute? Also, I believe it has its own reset button in a recessed hole underneath.
Cheers, Alan.

Re: Data
Hi Eddie, No the logger memory NEVER "fills", it just over-writes the oldest data entries (i.e it "wraps around"). Cumulus is clever enough to read backwards through all the logger entries until it finds the last time that data was downloaded. So you should only ever "lose&q...

Re: Data
Hi, You don't need to clear the station log, the memory "wraps around". Just ensure that you download the data (i.e. run Cumulus) before it starts to overwrite the old data, which is something over two weeks if using 5 minute logging (or 3 months with the default 30 mins). The data files s...

Re: Erroneous max temp
right now the rain gauge has stopped recording anything. Been up the pole and cleaned it all out but still nothing. ....... Can't even find anyone who sells parts. Hi Nick, Bad connector contacts seem to be a common problem. The sensor only consists a magnetic reed switch which closes whilst the se...

Re: Wind vane on WS1081
Hi Robin, I wouldn't have admitted that as a typo, because even 8 directions can nominally indicate the direction to within 22.5 degrees. ;) Apologies to all for attaching a rather large file in my previous post - I forgot to reduce from 24-bit to 8-bit colour and ATM can't see how to delete/replace...

Re: Wind vane on WS1081
Hi Robin, With its poor design of magnetic circuit giving small "intermediate" directions (NNE, ENE, etc.) and no rotational damping, the FO sensor is perhaps not a good choice to start a "homebuilt" project. But as you have : ;) The FO transmitter doesn't use a "proper"...

Re: WS-1090 Calibration Time
I use regular akaline AA' so I got quite a few "Lost sensor contact" errors in Cumulus, so I decided it was time to switch them out for Lithiums. Hi, Sorry, I can't help with the (possible) problem with the humidity sensor, but IMHO you have a problem with your wireless link (or a more ge...

Re: Photos of the insides of Fine Offset sensors.
Is the circuit card just a means to hold the reed switch, or does it have other components to send the signal to the transmitter? Hi Aaron, Yes AFAIK the PCB carries nothing more than the reed switch (and connector). The reed switch closes as the see-saw tips. But a few extra components (e.g. a res...

Re: Transmitter antenna
Hi Ian, The transmitter ONLY transmits a data packet once every 48 seconds and AFAIK the receiver only reports a "lost contact" if about 6 - 8 consecutive messages are not received. The 10 second interval is between each request by Cumulus of data from the receiver/logger. So you might hav...

Re: Transmitter antenna
Hi, Most antennae of this type are either "omnidirectional" (e.g. from a vertical "rod") or "figure of eight". So the maximum radiation (i.e. for best range) might be from the front and back, or maybe from both edges (the "symmetry" of the antenna is often a c...

Re: incorrect values
Hi Ian, I think perhaps you should have started a new thread as the OP has a different model (3081) and is in Australia. ;) The 1080/1 should recover from "lost contact" because it continues to monitor the specific transmitter "window". It seems to be only the new 3080/1 models w...

Re: incorrect values
I'd be tempted to try better ones, yes. Hi Jeremy, The problem is deciding what are "better" rechargeable batteries. The "best" I know are low-leakage NiMH cells but these are nominally only 1.2 volts compared with the 1.5 volts of the rechargeable alkalines, so the transmitter ...
