Re: Spider Warfare 101: Fine Offset Edition
And what did you do to assure the critters can't enter the portals where the rain drops fall into the tipping buckets?

Re: Wind readings quite high after battery change?
Thanks Alan.
Upon further review ..... an ohmmeter on a spare sensor I have does indeed reveal that there are 2 pulses/revolution.
Interesting phenomenon.
Thanks for blowing the cobwebs out of my gray matter.

Re: Wind readings quite high after battery change?
The anemometer rotor generates two pulses per revolution, perhaps it was previously only one, or now the reed switch has some "contact bounce". But these are basically "mechanical" issues which are unlikely to be caused by changing the battery (voltage). Are you sure of that :?:...

Re: WH1080 Wind speed sensor not working
My question is: If you had the wind speed sensor apart, why didn't you replace the "Chinese crap" with a "good English bearing", rather than putting a band-aid on it

Re: Wh1080 rain fall problem
Don't rule out the fact it could be as simple as a flaky phone jack on the transmitter. Those connectors sometimes get damaged if the plug might have been installed incorrectly.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Re: Wh1080 rain fall problem
You could easily check the sensor assembly at the plug, putting an ohmmeter across the two leads and rocking the buckets to see if the switch is closing and opening. That's where I would start in isolating the problem. If you don't have an ohmmeter and the knowledge on how to use it, sorry I'm no he...

Re: WH3080
Thanks everyone for all of the information spewed forth. I had never thought about how the rest of the world sets their clocks and calibrates their oscillators. Yes, there is a 60 KHz station at WWV although I have never had a receiver that tuned that low and it would probably not matter as the QRN ...

Re: WH3080
Any idea what frequency the Fine Offset units have their ears tuned to? 2.5, 5, 10, 15 or 20 MHz? The reason it's listening to a station in Germany or elsewhere is all about radio wave propagation. Some times I can hear WWV in Ft. Collins, CO (300 miles away as the corn flies), other times I can hea...

Re: WH3080
Since then it has worked fine except for the RCC which will not connect. Any ideas what to try? Hi Ron, Try to be patient, there is not 24-hour radio propagation, and it may take a while to receive a strong enough signal to set the clock. From the WH-2080 manual: RCC reception may take a cou...

Re: No wind speed data being recorded
Hi evo1966,
I would start by testing the wind speed sensor with a ohmmeter across the leads after unplugging it. Spinning the cups should show a switching from 0 to infinity at a frequency equal to the speed of the cups.
Good luck.

Hi Steve, steve wrote:Fine Offset stations only have a resolution of 12.5 degrees for wind direction (they supply one of 16 compass points).
Don't you mean 22.5° ? (360/16)

Perhaps your wind direction sensor and/or wiring from it to the transmitter is fubar.

Re: Rain gauge
Hi Spider-Vice, The first thing I would do is move the sensor outside http://i948.photobucket.com/albums/ad329/NO0C/Smilies%20Etc/rotfl2.gif http://i948.photobucket.com/albums/ad329/NO0C/Smilies%20Etc/just20kidding.gif 24 mm ? Hi henkg,
I like your design and ingenuity.
How about adding another elbow to your BOM and making it undeniably waterproof ?
Just a brain storm.

Re: Progress on Mounting WX Station
Hi all, Because I measured .06" of rain on a breezy day without a cloud in the sky http://i948.photobucket.com/albums/ad329/NO0C/Smilies%20Etc/banghead-1.gif and the threat of spiders and leaves nesting in the rain sensor, I moved my rainfall sensor to a different location on the same tower leg...
