Re: Vantage Vue review
I recently discovered this review, and it's one of the best I've found on the internet. I'm not very surprised by the temperature problem (the radiation shield is really tiny and not very well positioned - is there a way to fix this?). But I'm a bit worried about the rainfall issue. If you take your...

Re: Problems with station communication: USB locks up comple
I'm almost 100% convinced interference has nothing to do with it. Interference on USB communication is handled by the USB controller, it will cause slower transfer rates and in worst case loss of connection as result. But never a lockup of the entire device. Reading the above I think people are stil...

Re: The inside of the ws-1081
hmm... on top if the black blob there is "SPL191B1". Googling it gives us that SPL191B1 is a Sunplus 8-bit CMOS microprocessor with 256K ROM (to store the program - can we read it?) and 704 bytes RAM and 20 I/Os There is probably info to be found about Sunplus SPL191B, like datasheets, but...

Re: Problems with station communication: USB locks up comple
This is, roughly, what I'm experimenting with at the moment. I'm avoiding both the 48 second outside sensor clock and the one minute console clock (as this controls writing of logged data every 5 minutes). I've set the margin at 3 seconds either side of the expected time, and remeasure the time eve...

Re: Problems with station communication: USB locks up comple
Maybe a stupid remark, but if the hangup depends on the timing that you read from the USB port, couldn't it be prevented then by chosing a different timing, one that does not conflict with the unit itself accessing memory? So if the unit writes to the memory every 48 seconds, to avoid a crash you sh...

Re: Problems with station communication
Well, it's certainly not a windows issue. My WH1080 console is connected to an OpenWRT router running pywws, and I have the same issue.

Re: Fed up with Fine Offset. I want to start from scratch?
Can't you get closer to the sensor array with your base station then? Or does it still loose contact when they are next to each other. In a perfect world, someone would make a sensor array with a USB interface, but I doubt that exists. The reason why it probably doesn't exist is that running a long ...

They are using foil bubble wrap insulation. Maybe worth a try if you have it lying around. Looks easy to construct.

Re: Mains Power for the Fine offset WH3081
Interesting... I also see you have 12V there - while already having a cable running to your WS, one could use a double cable and also provide it with that 12V in case you also would want a fan running 24-hours?

Re: 1-wire/Arduino/Cumulus ?
I'm quite keen to get on with the new WS as it's a very interesting project and should overcome many of the FO station shortcomings.. - first of all sorry if I hijack this thread, but it's just a little question I had when reading your post (and other people may be interested in the answer too). I ...

Re: Reading WS 1080 weather station directly via usb
Hi tweedie, I don't know if you had any success with your project? I tried compiling fowsr on Ubuntu Linux, I am a C++ programmer and I didn't even succeed :) Anyway, I think if you want to do this in VB, you'll have to first look at the basics of USB communication - what libraries you need, how you...
