Six years and counting

My Fine Offset station celebrates it's sixth birthday today. Mostly original except for the "windy" bits, these have been replaced a number of times; it's currently on only it's second set of batteries!

Is this a record?

I bought my W-8681 in February 2008. Yesterday the original set of duracell batteries finally gave up the ghost - 32months, is this a record?

Re: Will two w/stations clash

Placing a metal can over the unit should stop the signal.

Re: Webcam software?

I have been using a Philips ToUcam Pro 2 for the past 5 years http://www.lordpercy.com/philips_toucam_pro_2.htm . I belive this particular model has now been discontinued but I presume it's been superceded by something with more bells and whistles. The signal feeds into a usb port and is processed b...

Re: no wind or direction - Frozen?

Does anyone know where (I hope this exists!) I can get a solar powered heating kit for weather stations? In mind, I have a small little solar panel feeding 2 or 3 heating resistors which are attached (somehow) to the two wind sensors and maybe have one inside the rain gauge! Perhaps you could try s...

Re: 480 bug

Hi Steve - I think I have the same problem as Dane. Cumulus (1.8.3_482) loaded well after being closed for the night. Downloading window (complete with working progress bar) closed at the end of downloading. Unfortunately some data seemed to have vanished from around 5:00am but recording ok from swi...

Re: Unresponsive?

Ah, this is probably relevant. The 'please wait' window is supposed have a working progress bar. Do other Fine Offset users not see the bar? Hi Steve, I get the "Downloading Data" window and a long rectangle which I presume is the working progress bar, but it's always remained empty. I do...

Re: Wind directions

Hi Steve, My chart looks the same as Bob's. Sometimes the wind vane rotates as fast as the anemometer cups, the cross-sectional area of the "pointer" must be approaching that of the fin! If I ever have to take mine down I'd like to try and modify it a little or even just try some thick gre...

Re: Not Recording and Error Light

Your website is still there but the graphs have been "flatlining" since 9:00am so it's not receiving data or any data being received hasn't changed. Have you tried manually updating to see if the ftp facility is actually still able to connect and transfer the data? (file/web update) Have y...

Re: Excellent Work With Cumulus 1.8-Working Smoothly With WH1081

Nice job Steve, version 1.8 is working well with my W-8681. These units are being widely advertised in the Amateur Radio press so there will be many people looking for an easy-to-use application such as yours. Please resist the calls for extra bells and whistles, they're available elsewhere! Tony Us...

Re: Maintainence issues with MyDEL or similar

hi guys. my MyDEL system stopped recording rain data 48 hours ago. My first check was the telephone connector under the 'screen' Bingo, replugging did the trick. Regards- Phil (G0DOR) I had the same problem this week. In my case it was caused by a family of spiders that had set up home in the body ...

Sandaysoft Software

Many thanks for this software. I seem to have got it up and running successfully, the instructions are excellent - unlike those for another program that I paid for and still struggle with!
