Re: What to purchase

Hi, This is probably heresy ;) here but I have to say that I've been quite impressed with my Ultimeter 2100 plus sensor combo. Unfortunately it doesn't use Cumulus though. The annemometer has a significant design issue in that in strong winds (40mhp ish +) the cups are so big it rocks back on the ce...

Re: Crazy November weather in the UK

Hi, Just checked my electronic PWS with it's 8inch tipping bucket and it's telling me 250.5mm. So, if you believe that figure then it's a new all time high monthly rainfall total in the 10 years opertaing at the current location. What is truly depressing is that there was "measurable precipitat...

Re: Crazy November weather in the UK

I tallied up my rainfall totals from the manual 5 inch gauge and for November 2015 it came to 246.1mm :o

That's the wettest month for me since December 2011.

Pretty soggy (and it's been fairly blowy too, 61mph on Sunday afternoon)....

Re: What is the cheapest Solar Sensor on the market ........

Hi, I've had a bit of a brainwave.... It would still need some external electronics to do the measuring (an opamp circuit) BUT GaN/SiC blue LED's are now available very cheaply. One could use really fine emery paper to scar the plastic lens dome to act as diffuser, or even carefully chop it ...

Re: Breezy again....

A fair point, Simply because I don't have one!, I just upload the data to the WOW website and monitor it from there myself. If you want to look at the graphs search for Kilwinning Weather (1910303) on the WOW site. cheers, Bill. PS. even the site listed on the wow site doesn't work due to server res...

Re: What is the cheapest Solar Sensor on the market ........

Hi, This might be a slight digression in context of the original post but from my experience with photodetectors, the only way to correctly measure UV is to use a "proper" UV sensor. The device of choice in industry are photodiodes using the Silicon Carbide substrate with the correct UV fi...

Re: Breezy again....

Blustery showers now.
Last night wasn't too bad, a couple of hours with gusts in the mid 50's mph.
Tossed a few wheely bins around but nothing more.

cheers,
Bill.

Re: Breezy again....

Be careful what you wish for as they say.

It's still raining but not as heavy as a few hours ago.

The pressure is falling at ~4mb/hour now and it is getting breezy again.
Forecast is for it to get quite frisky here through midnight and the wee hours....
Batten down the hatches.

Cheers,
Bill.

Re: PVC Pipe Fan Aspirated Radiation Shield FARS

Hi, I posted this elsewhere but I've forgotten exactly where.... low cost temp shields.pdf It is an interesting read for those looking at aspirated housings using pipe as discussed. cheers, Bill. PS. On the aspiration issue, after a recent big blow and seeing the demise of another screen posted on t...

Re: Breezy again....

The gusts have dropped to the mid thirties.
The low must be moving in a more northerly direction than I thought.
How disappointing.
Still that's a new gust record for the year here. ;)
cheers,
Bill.

Breezy again....

Hi,
The wind speeds have been steadily climbing this morning. Just had a gust of 69mph.
Pressure has just ticked up. Looks like the worst is just about to arrive here as my station comes under the SW quadrant of the low.
cheers,
Bill.

Re: Likelihood of it getting a bit breezy

Hi,
Glad to hear it.

The splintered piece of wood that can be seen tells a sad tale....

Couple of bolts, lick of paint and it'll be like brand new!

Cheers,
Bill.

Re: Likelihood of it getting a bit breezy

Hi All, Got a bit breezy here, Averaging in the 20's mph but with regular gusts to 60+, The peak gust was 67 mph. That's the fastest here since "bawgag" and "bampot" a couple of years ago. Took a pic this morning of the marine electronic barometer. This is the rate change of pres...

Re: STEVENSON SCREENS - CHEAP OPTION

Hi, The unit on the fence is a Peetbros "Sensor Combo" as they call it. Went wired due to being fed up with radio link drop outs. It's a fixed assembly inasmuch as it's built to accomodate their own temp/hygro box. Not really meant for anything else. The fan in the wooden screen makes a di...
