Re: Rain Bucket Modification - Fine Offset WH1081

its not sealed yet before I do so I'm cross checking the readings with the manual gauge as said its more a wind shroud as opposed to a sealed funnel design like your's also I'm in the process as I speak of building a DIY Stevenson screen for it based on the thread on here :)

Re: Rain Bucket Modification - Fine Offset WH1081

I did something similar with my gauge but I made a cut about 2/3 of the way up my old 1081 gauge (I upgraded to the 3081) cleaned the edges up and just sleeved it over my existing gauge as a shroud though mine is more aimed at preventing splashing out in wind as opposed to just conventional splash o...

Re: Placement of temperature sensor

I'm actually toying with the idea of building a single louvred wooden box that just fits outside the existing radiation shield for evaluation in essence this would become a double louvred design and from jotting down a few ideas seems like it is very simple to do :)

Re: Console location

1 of my few technical observer mates said the Bureau of Met readings are taken from inside air conditioned buildings so in effect the same deal here, I'm not so worried about it now as I think it was temperature anomalies on the black plastic back of the unit creating these issues. Correct - but re...

Re: Console location

I was getting readings going out of calibration but I am putting it down to the fact the unit was getting some arvo sun on it, moved it to a wall mount where it will be shaded most of the time. 1 of my few technical observer mates said the Bureau of Met readings are taken from inside air conditioned...

Console location

Hi all, I'm debating on finally moving my WH3081 console to a box just outside of my window but provide adequate ventilation as I've been thinking long and hard about the fact these stations take barometric pressure readings from the inside console which is in our air conditioned house. Where do oth...

Re: Rainfall accuracy

haha well people can get as cranky as they want, I'm a very experienced Stormchaser (11 years) and really only have good intentions behind it, the design of these stations with roof mounted sensors just does my head in! I know I get narky because I spent day after day after work in a garage meticulo...

Re: Rainfall accuracy

I didn't see this mentioned here but it makes a big difference, WMO standards dictate that a rain gauge whether electronic or manual should be mounted as close as practical to the ground, the standard given is no higher than 30cm. The reason is the higher the gauge the more susceptible it is to air ...

Re: Solar and UV sensors going off line - fix?

mine is functioning still but not reliably on average it needs a reset 2 - 3 times a day, emailed fine offset to start the process to obtain a new unit as you guys have done, its a pain in the backside if I may say so!

Re: Solar and UV sensors going off line - fix?

seems like these sensors can be quite troublesome, I hope mine doesn't have any more hiccups but not holding my breath, I noticed they don't like to be spiked into a light reading but bring it on gradually its not so bad. My routine if the dreaded dashes show is hit the down arrow key till the trans...
