Re: Instructions: Installing CumulusMX on Raspberry Pi

OK, thanks. Yes, it was me who reported trouble moving a card from Pi 3 to Pi 0 while setting up a CMX installation, but wasn't sure that maybe I just wasn't following the instructions carefully enough! But reassuring as a sanity check that it wasn't just me! OK, so different images might be needed ...

Re: Instructions: Installing CumulusMX on Raspberry Pi

How feasible would it be to create a downloadable and zipped Raspbian image with Mono/CMX pre-installed? Pi users could then just download the zip and use eg Etcher to set up a new SD card - a relatively quick and easy way to get up and running with CMX on a Pi. Really just asking in principle - not...

Re: WiFiLogger for Davis stations

The actual API for requesting data from the WiFi logger is just the standard Davis one, ie as per the SerialTechRef document - see: https://support.davisinstruments.com/article/rbzgl0rh6k-vantage-pro-pro-2-and-vue-communications-reference-2-6-1-any-os From memory, the logger can be accessed on defau...

Re: Detaching temp sensor to put in Stevenson Screen

Don't forget Davis part 7346.221 which is the standard current (SHT31) VP2 T/H sensor with a 25ft/7.6m cable. Having said which, I'm not sure whether we have any stock or not (though we may do), but if there was any interest/demand then this could be rectified fairly quickly.

Re: Vantage Vue

Davis sell a box called "WeatherLink Live" which seems to do just what you ask for - connects to the sensors, sends data to any device on your LAN... But be careful: Weatherlink Live (WLL) does not - currently at least - work with Cumulus(MX). Any software has to contain routines to listen for the ...

Re: LOOP packet requests?

OK, thanks. I didn't think to look in the DIAGS. But leaving the LOOP2 stuff to one side, that looks like it's requesting 50 LOOPs at a time. What's slightly curious is doing this every (I think) 63 seconds or so - that looks to be asking for roughly twice as many LOOPs as are actually available in ...

LOOP packet requests?

Anyone know how many LOOP packets CMX requests at a time? I thought it might be just one but seeing something that suggesting it might be eg 20 (edit: no, more than that - 50?). ICBW about this - just trying to make sense of an observation!

Re: Instructions: Installing CumulusMX on Raspberry Pi

SD cards should be interchangeable without problem between all models of Raspberry Pi. I routinely do builds on a Pi3B+ (so that installs are fast) then swap the card to a Pi0W for actual use. All I can say is that this isn't my experience (using recently purchased pi0W, 3B+ and fully updated Stret...

Re: Instructions: Installing CumulusMX on Raspberry Pi

Hmm. Made another new SD card:

1. Flashed using Etcher with Raspbian Stretch

2. Initial updating etc on Pi 3B+

3. Move to Pi0W and install Mono - took around 30 mins.

4. All seems to be running OK.

Re: Instructions: Installing CumulusMX on Raspberry Pi

Since they are based on different CPUs I very much doubt the SD cards are interchangeable. On the one hand I wouldn't be at all surprised if 0 and 3 had eg mono configurations that weren't 100% compatible. OTOH some of the information upthread seems to suggest that it should be OK to interchange Pi...

Re: Instructions: Installing CumulusMX on Raspberry Pi

Have an SD card that allows CMX to run OK on a Pi3B+. But the same SD card throws mono errors when trying to start CMX on a Pi0W. I had it in my head that cards should be interchangeable between 3 and 0, but maybe that's not automatically true? Is there anything that I might have done wrong when pre...

Re: Sunshine hours

I would ignore the Weatherlink figures completely - the algorithm is much too simplistic in just assuming that a suitable threshold for calculating BS hours from direct irradiance can also be used for total irradiance. The WL figures are probably better than nothing, but not by much!

Re: WiFiLogger for Davis stations

Sorry Steve, I know you don't want to spend too much time here, but I still don't feel like I understand the complete picture. Could I have one more go: In the normal course of events, does the connection between logger and MX stay up? Or is every request for a new LOOP packet always bracketed by op...

Re: WiFiLogger for Davis stations

[Not sure this is the right forum to continue this thread, but since it's started here...] Thanks Steve, that's helpful. I clearly don't understand enough about the detail of how the IP connection is made. I had imagined that this connection was, in a sense, always on, ie if a data packet arrived on...

Re: WiFiLogger for Davis stations

This is the issue I described above, the connection was closed and MX does not handle it. You are unlikely to get MX to play nicely in a situation where the connection can get closed while it is using it, regardless of settings. Steve, I may be wrong but this sounds like it is an error that could (...
